Shanghai-based company ‘Romai Electric Vehicles’ is planning to enter Kerala with their electric auto rickshaws. Romai Electric Vehicles makes tricycles to which roof can be added to make it rickshaws. The expected price is between Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000.The management team of the company was in Kochi recently to test the product in Kerala roads. The company is also busy getting approvals from the Transport Officer of the state. Around three containers of vehicles and spare parts would be transported from China before the official launch happens.

Please forgive me for thinking otherwise but I think these will be slow moving vehicles like auto rickshaws and make driving even more difficult for all the drivers who have to drive through already enough congested roads in our metropolitan cities.

Can’t vouch for its reliability but it seems economical from the price point of view. However I think E-Rickshaws in Delhi are still much better.

New Delhi will soon be getting a different rickshaw from the usual ones.Instead of electric ,we will be riding a solar rickshaw.Soleckshaws as it will be known and it will use a strip of silicon to convert solar energy into electricity which will stored in the batteries and used to power the vehicle which will hit a top max speed of 25 km/hr.The first phase will be to introduce 1000 solar rickshaw in Delhi University, Dwarka, Pitampura, Rohini and trans- Yamuna areas.MCD plans to increase it to 10,000 in future.
It has been designed by Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI) with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

Will be avaliable in three variants:

For plastic frame with an enhanced battery – Rs 85,000.

For plastic frame only - Rs 75,000.

For metal frame body – Rs 45,000.

it would be safer for both the occupants & other vehicles too
