Does Engine size of car matters for Fuel Economy ?

My first impression was yes. But after seeing below video last part [surprise] my opinion is changed. It does not matter. what does matter is how you drive. [clap]

Some more facts

Test #1 Aggressive Driving vs. Moderate Driving
Result: Major savings potential
The Cold Hard Facts: Up to 37 percent savings, average savings of 31 percent
Recommendation: Stop driving like a maniac.

Test #2 Lower Speeds Saves Gas
Result: Substantial savings on a long trip
Cold Hard Facts: Up to 14 percent savings, average savings of 12 percent
Recommendation: Drive the speed limit.

Test #3 A/C On, Windows Up vs. A/C Off, Windows Down
Result: Nice in theory; not true in practice
Cold Hard Facts: No measurable difference (unless you open the sunroof, too!)
Recommendation: Please, make yourself comfortable.

Test #4 Avoid Excessive Idling
Result: More important than we assumed
Cold Hard Facts: Avoiding excessive idling can save up to 19 percent
Recommendation: Stopping longer than a minute? Shut 'er down.

Note- Moderators please move to proper section it this section is incorrect.

i think it does. I mean what JC shows is true but a 1.4TSi engine will surely consume lesser fuel than a 2.0 normal engine. It really doesnt matter of the turbo just the cubic capacity.

Ask Shah Rukh Khan about it. :lol!:

The FE of the i10 Kappa 1200 cc is more than that of the i10 iRDE 1100cc.
Besides, the SX4 1.6 gives way better FE thank the Indigo 1.2.

Still a confusion with me also,[confused] but mostly yes!!

Now I wanna share a story with you all regarding this:

Previously we owned Bajaj Pulsar 150(2006): when my dad use to ride, he used to get a mileage of 53kmpl, on hways, with economy speed of around 60-65! (thats the max mileage I got in that bike)[surprise]

Presently I own Bajaj Pulsar 180(2009): again; when my dad rides he manages to get a mileage of 53-55kmpl, on hways, with economy speed of around 60-65! (thats the max mileage till date we got in this bike)

Now 30cc difference; still confused with the difference in mileage!!!

Here is a simple proof to end the debate.
Yamaha R15 = 35 kmpl
Pulsar 220 = 45 kmpl

may be!![lol]

One more story: on my P180, which I generally ride, could never ever manage to get more than 49kmpl![frustration] Now again driving styles issue appears!![surprise]
So your Dad gets upto 65 but get only upto 49 on the same bike? Strange. Better check with ARAI figures for both 150 and 180.

Forget Different bikes or cars in CC.
When I first started my Punto i was getting 13 Km/lit and Now as i am expert driver I am getting 14.5 Km/lit. This tells us Driving Style does matter lot.

No its not just the 1) Engine Size or 2) Driving Style which matters the fuel economy of two similar or different sized engined cars/bikes.

Following are the points which contribute equally in deciding the fuel consumption.

3) State of the Engine Tuning (Includes Hardware & Software)

4) Vehicles Weight

5) Tyre Size, Air pressure

6) Body Shape(Aerodynamics),Wind Resistance,Weather Conditions,etc
