What exactly is the difference between 1 DIN and 2 DIN music systems?

I know that 2 DIN music system is twice as big as 1 DIN system, but what else is the difference(technically)?

Just the size?
Then why are 2-DIN more expensive(they also take up more space)?

Yes 2-dins are expensive.

1-din player comes with less feature when compared to 2-din.

You know some 2-din players even come with touch screen and DVD player which most of 1-dins wont have. This is my understanding

2 DIN means Digitally Integrated.
2 DIN offers more On board Functionality such as GPS,Reverse Parking Camera assistance all in one go than 1 DIN.
Basically it has touch screen which is user friendly,
It can also be a PC in your car.
As you spend vitamin-M you get a better functionality systems.
1 DIN basically has a minimum functionality of Aux, as well as CD receiver , bluetooth etc.
than 1 DIN.

International standard ISO 7736 defines a standard size for car audio head units. The standard was originally established by the German standards body Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN). There are DIN standards for a large number of different connectors, therefore the term DIN connector alone does not unambiguously identify any particular type of connector unless the document number of the relevant DIN standard is added (e.g., DIN 41524 connector). It was adopted as an international standard in 1984. Head units generally come in either Single DIN (180 x 50 mm panel) or Double DIN (180 x 100 mm panel) size. Please note, the depth is not standard. 1 DIN is the standard DIN specification. 2 DIN or double DIN refers to units that are twice as high as the standard DIN, half DIN is half high as 1 DIN. The US standard for a DIN radio is generally considered to be approximately 2" x 7" and the Double DIN is 4" x 7". So you should check the player position height of your car carefully, if 50mm, you should get 1 Din Car audio, and if 100mm, please choose 2 Din audio.

Also note that other than the size and connector used, the specification is not dependent on features. Hope this clarifies your query.

This is a 2-din system, which does not feature any of the features in Bold:

Not necessarily. Cars with 100mm height can also have a single din unit, and the rest of the space can be left empty for storage.
IMHO, the basic difference/advantages of 2 din systems are;
1. They help give that 'integrated look in many cars like the Aveo, Fiesta, WagonR, i10 and swift which have space for 2-din unit.
2. It is possible to have a CD Unit as well as a Cassette player in a 2DIN unit, not in a single DIN unit.
3. Slightly larger screen(in some cases)
