Fiat multijet engines are quite simple to maintain, not like old diesel engines. And one more thing they are even more fun to drive than their petrol counterparts.

i read over few forums that synthetic oil is used over normal oil to manager diesel engines. I mean old indian saying "jitna gudd daloge utna meetha nilklega"
looking at normal service routine for a new car
1st service after 1000kms
2nd after 5000kms
3rd after 10,000 kms
and then so forth

so if I understand correctly you mean to say is if for diesel I have to get it serviced every 5000kms
but since same routine goes for petrol it can serviced after 10,000kms

now if under normal service routine the engine oil and filter and labour contributes to maybe INR 2500 for petrol and 5000 for diesel

that also means if am sedate driver
I drove 5000kms on diesel and spent INR 10,500 on same with FE of 20+ since am driving highways diesel cost (42)

similar way
I drove 5000kms on petrol and spent INR 20945 on same with FE of 17+ (petrol cost 71)

so after driving 10,000KMS on both
double the value for money as well
21000 diesel I serviced diesel twice with INR 5000 X2 = 10000 total cost = 31000
41890 petrol I service petrol once with INR 2500 total cost = 44390

I drive 2000kms a month so I would touch that mark every 5th month means twice in an year

as per calculations it all boils down to FE your car is giving
if your FE goes up more in diesel then obviously saving as per calculations
if your FE is good in petrol then as I have heard everyone saying petrol is better of the two
but company also claims more FE for diesel as compared to petrol
and Therefore the discussion further goes forward with what FE do swift petrol owners get normally because company can say anything to sell there product however we as users are the best example to share actual facts

my ten year old M 800 gives me 200km + on full cylinder CNG that comes to INR 320

threeace777,

Oil change is at every 10000 km for my Diesel car.

It is TATA Manza with same type of engine (its 90 HP).
They call it Quadrajet.

Total maintenance charges for the 1st year was Rs 4003

This include oil change during 3rd service at 10000 km - Rs 3581 and an oil top up during 5000 km second service due a long highspeed highway run.

So in my experience Diesel maintenance charges are not high as it is hyped. Only proof (as you have asked in your earlier post) I can give is from my experience.

http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...-manza-ownership-experience-7.html#post141278

Charges for 1st service (1000 km) - Rs 0
Charges for 2nd service (5000 km) - Rs 523
(becuasde of oil top up)
Charges for 3rd service (10000 km) - Rs 3581
(including oil change)

Now its 1.5 years and 18000 km. No other expenditure to add in the above list other than Rs 858 paid for a preventive check up when I was preparing for a planned 6000 km trip.

To make your decision easy, please note the below

I own a Ritz Ldi which is one year old and done 13000km so far

Maintenance :
1st free service 1000km : Rs.680/-
2nd free service 5000km : Rs.33/-
3rd free service 10000km : Rs.1900/-

Oil used us a regular mineral oil and there is absolutely no need to use synthetic oils

My next service is at 20000km and however i will just go for a simple service with a wash and wheel alignment, balancing at 15000km

Apart from above, I did not a spent a single rupee.

I was also thinking a lot before shifting to diesel especially on maintenance and it is very less than maintenance of petrol bike Suzuki Slingshot !! ( it costs me more with this as it gives 50kmpl and petrol is Rs.77/- per liter these days)

My Ritz Ldi gives me very precisely 19-20kmpl with AC in city and 22-23kmpl on highway with AC.[:D]

Now decide what to do[:)]

Fiats use Synthetic oil in their cars, so their service intervals are every 15000 kms. My Punto's first service was at 15k kms, second will be at 30k, third at 45k and so on.

Though Maruti uses the same engine, they use mineral oil and hence they have service every 5k kms, though oil changes are done every 10k kms.
