Re: Upcoming Commercial Vehicles in India

DAF trucks is making way their way to India and coming for this auto expo.

International truck makers like Doorne’s Aanhangwagen Fabriek (DAF) a wholly owned subsidiary of the North-American corporation PACCAR Inc. will announce their entry into the Indian commercial vehicle segment. To start with the truck maker will showcase the DAF CF Series of trucks at the 11th edition of the Auto Expo.

PACCAR Inc. has launched its new PACCAR Technical Center in Pune with its partner KPIT, a leading technology solutions company which will provide jobs to 200 individuals in the sectors of engineering and information technology. DAF vehicles will be built to order depending upon their application and individual needs. Swedish truck maker Volvo and German automotive giant Mercedes-Benz are already offering their products to Indian customers.

DAF will be keen to join the bandwagon of premium commercial vehicles in India. To start with, DAF’s CF Series might be the model that will be available in India. The CF Series is available in either either as tractor or rigid chassis in two, three or four axle models. Being such a versatile platform, the CF Series could be the best model for India. Also, the CF Series can be ordered in various configurations including tippers, tractor trailers etc.

The CF Series can be ordered with different engine configurations. The engines available on the CF Series range from 210 bhp all the way upto 510 bhp. All engines are manufactured by PACCAR Inc. and are designed to be highly reliable and efficient. The main rivals for the DAF CF in India will be Volvo’s new FM series and Mercedes’ Actros range of trucks.

TATA ACE DICOR SPIED:

ICB reader has spotted Tata Ace DICOR near pune, they spotted a passenger and a pick up version of ACE with on-test badge on it. While the DICOR(tata speak for common rail direct injection) turbo diesel engine for the Tata Ace was always in the pipeline. From details ICB has managed to gather on the DICOR engine, the twin cylinder engine has been chopped off the 475 engine range, which in other words is the 1,405cc Indica engine. This has been done to keep development costs to the bare minimum while also ensuring that the spare parts remain common to that of the Indica’s engine for easy serviceability. The common rail direct injection system has been developed by Bosch.

Tata-Ace-DICOR.jpg

Also there is another surprising news, a similar engine will be used in the upcoming Nano Diesel. Already Bosch has talked about this engine few months back "The car has a two-cylinder, 700cc engine which develops healthy power without compromising on fuel economy. Although official test figures have not been revealed, we expect it to run 40 km on one litre of diesel."

Tata Ace DICOR mini pick up truck will use a 700cc twin cylinder engine whose power and torque output will be much lesser than the Nano diesel. The same goes for NVH levels too, which are expected to be higher than on the Nano due to the Ace being an out and out commercial vehicle. However, fuel economy could get a huge boost and with that, the Tata Ace DICOR might knock the wind off a certain Mahindra Maxximo mini pick up’s sales, which already is in the doldrums.

Tata is now feeling the heat of Dost and Maxximo pick-up so think they have come to this idea.

And a member of motorbeam have also the spotted Maxximo CNG:

@ S Class

Prima is the best looking truck that we have currently in India and pehaps the world and nothing comes close to it in terms of looks, even these DAF trucks are no where close IMO.I used to travel 20 kms off my home just to get glimse of Prima trucks on a regular basis, even though am not a commercial vehicle type guy.It won't be unfair to say that whatever interest I have in CVs, it because of Tata Prima[:D].

@ Vishwas
Check out the sales figure of Ace and Magic for the last month, they have literally slaughtered Maximo and Dost without mercy,so no question of them feeling the heat. The Dicor engine is to give them accessibility in BS 4 cities IMO.Also now with Ace BS4 being tested its only a matter of time before we see Super Ace/Venture BS4 in Dicor/CR4 guise[;)].

Re: Upcoming Commercial Vehicles in India

Down south, Mahindra & Ashok Leyland over powers TATA. But I guess comparing Maximmo & Ace is futile as the Maximmo is much more costlier than the Ace. Ace is very basic & crude in comparison.

The competition of Maximo is actually Super Ace.

Absolutely competition is always better for the customers, but am not sure about Dost/maximo capturing Ace's market share, can you bring some specific data regarding this topic.

In Bangaluru there are also so many Puntos and Lineas, infact much more than Vista/Manza, but their position nation wise is not healthy, if AL and M&M want to take the market share of Ace, then they will have to sell pan India wise, selling in only one zone will not help,IMO.

Re: Upcoming Commercial Vehicles in India

bajaj has revealed its first four wheeled vehicle

Bajaj auto2.jpg

bajaj auto has just revealed its first low-cost, four-wheeled city vehicle ahead
called the re60, the vehicle aims to set new benchmarks for four-wheelers in the areas of fuel-efficiency and emissions, returning a claimed 35kpl and emitting just 60g of co2 per kilometre.

This is possible mostly thanks to the re60’s lightweight, rigid, metal-polymer hybrid monocoque construction, which keeps the vehicle’s kerb weight at just under 400kg. Also playing a major role is the liquid-cooled, four-stroke dtsi engine. The 200cc, single-cylinder unit is rear-mounted, produces approximately 20bhp and uses a closed-loop fuel injection system.

The car is intended for intra-city use with a footprint not much bigger than that of an auto rickshaw, which is interesting, because bajaj is marketing it as a safer, better-appointed alternative to a three-wheeler rather than a conventional passenger car.

“at bajaj auto, we believe the people of this planet deserve much better, much faster,” said managing director rajiv bajaj.

“we are presenting an optimised solution for intra-city passenger transport. This vehicle has been designed for intra-city use, keeping in mind the intra-city duty cycles and safety requirements.”

he further emphasised that the vehicle’s development required minimal investment, and no additional infrastructure, resources, huge subsidies or time.

At first glance, the short wheelbase, upright glasshouse, and skinny wheels give the re60 a comical stance. However, a closer look reveals a smart urban face, with headlights that have a renault touch to their design. There is no grille under the re badge on the snout.

The interiors are also spartan – the dash has the instrument cluster in the centre with stowage boxes on either side. However, there is a lot of storage space in the cabin. The seats look quite basic and the rear bench is flat and an evolution of the rickshaw bench. the commercial-vehicle version of the re60 shown at the launch even had an auto rickshaw meter fitted to the dash.

the windows don’t roll down, but instead are split in the middle and flip down. Further evidence of the car’s low-cost positioning is the absence of front headrests, the lack of roof lining and the exclusion of inertia reels on the seatbelts.

The re60 features 2+2 or 1+3 seating layout options, a 44-litre boot and a top speed of 70kph. Its 2.75m length, 1.3m width and 3.5m turning circle radius should make it very manoeuvrable in city traffic.

The company has said prices will be revealed closer to when production begins, which will be in a few months’ time.

Re: Upcoming Commercial Vehicles in India

Sorry to say but somehow the front design doesn't appeal to my eyes, it feels as if the car has been carved out in a crude form. If this is electric then it might click with old people if it isn't then we can safely think this might not click with the masses as I see this is only powered with a 200CC single cylinder engine. Might choke if people think this can be used for some weekend outings

Re: Upcoming Commercial Vehicles in India

It looks more like a Golf car....if this goes well in the market, somewhat close fight to Tata Nano though its more powerful.
