Buick Envision (2021) Gets a Surprisingly Attractive Redesign

Buick is sharing the first photos of the new 2021 Envision, and we like what we see so far. This redesigned version of Buick's compact SUV offering looks far more attractive than its predecessor, which first came to the U.S. for 2016. A Buick spokesperson told C/D that the Envision will continue to be imported to the U.S. from China, where it's produced.

Several driver-assistance features will be standard, including automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist. It will come in a range-topping Avenir trim level, and available options will include a head-up display, a 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display, and a park-assist system. Buick has yet to release photos of the interior but says more information is coming later this year.

We expect the 2021 Envision to be a bit more expensive than before, meaning it should start somewhere in the high-$30,000 range. Buick says it will arrive at U.S. dealerships starting in early 2021.

2021 Buick Envision Compact Crossover Looks as Good Inside as Outside

• Photos from GM's partner SAIC in China, where the Buick Envision is a popular model, reveal what the interior of the 2021 model will look like, and it's impressive.

After releasing initial exterior shots and details just over a month ago, GM has now provided our first glimpse inside the handsomely redesigned compact crossover.

The new Envision's dashboard is visually split both horizontally and vertically. The 10.0-inch touchscreen is canted 18 degrees to port, contributing to a driver-centric layout more commonly seen in sports cars. HVAC vents below visually divide the infotainment system from the center console, where the push-buttons replace the shift knob, with more auxiliary controls moved to the screen to further reduce aesthetic clutter.

The cabin is swathed in contrast-stitched leather (pictured on the standard model in two-tone brown and black) and accented with laser-engraved piano lacquer trim. The long list of features includes Bose surround sound, wireless Apple CarPlay capability, a head-up display, negative-ion air purification, ventilated seats, and more than 20 interior storage spaces—all capped by an oversize panoramic glass roof.

2021 Buick Envision Specs and Trim Levels Revealed

• The order guide for the redesigned 2021 Buick Envision crossover is out.
• We now know it will come standard with a 230-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine and offer base, Preferred, Essence, and Avenir trim levels.
• The 2021 Envision is scheduled to arrive at dealerships early next year.

We already knew that the 2021 Buick Envision looks far better than its predecessor, and now the new model's official order guide has divulged lots more details. Trim levels, standard and optional equipment, and powertrain specs are all included. Now the only thing we're waiting to hear about is the price, which will likely be released closer to the Envision's on-sale date early next year.

The standard engine across the board is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four with 230 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option on all but the base model. This means the new Envision is less powerful than its predecessor, which offered an optional turbo 2.0-liter four that made 252 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The previous model's base 193-hp naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four has been dropped.

Base, Preferred, Essence, and Avenir trim levels make up the 2021 Envision lineup. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all models, while the Avenir offers niceties such as 20-inch wheels, heated and cooled front seats, and a head-up display. We expect the Envision to start in the mid-$30,000 range and go up to around $50,000 when fully loaded.
