Re: BMW 1 Series in India soon at 15 Lakh

Well yeah almost! If you are looking at a more VFM purchase you have the Passat and Superb which offers the same comfort and even better features for a lesser price tag.

So the bottomline is if you have the money and want to show-off you can go for these big cars else a Passat or Superb is more VFM!

Well you should not be comparing the Skoda Superb to the S-Class! Ideally it should be compared to only to the E-Class and yes it has the space and comfort of an E-Class!

I dont think the Indian car buyer has matured that much to buy a hatchback at that price. Plus many buyers at that price are chauffeur driven so back seat comfort matters. Also size and status matters to most buyers at this price point. Most Indians correlate size with price and status.

Re: BMW confirms 1 Series for India

To become leader in terms of sales, I won't be surprised, if BMW launches 0.5 or 0.25 series for India. [lol]

Heck, I hate this nos. gain. What's the use of buying BMW if car is stuck at service centre due to non-availability of spares ? I always feel that only 3 series is worth buying, rest are all crap.

BTW, being in Pune has big advantage. The dealer for Merc/Jag says that if they don't have any spare, they can get it in 2 hours from factory. [clap]

Re: BMW Confirms 1 Series for India To Rival Merc A-Class

BMW 1 Series ready for 2013 India debut

The 1 Series will be assembled at BMW India's Chennai facility which currently assembles the 3 Series and 5 Series sedans, the X1 compact SUV and the diesel X3. Assembled units attract a lower duty than CBUs and this will allow BMW India to price the new 1 Series rather aggressively. Keeping that in mind, the plant currently has a capacity for 11,000 units per annum however with demand on the 1 Series expected to soar, there is going to be a definite need for an increase in plant capacity.

BMW India starts marketing campaigns for the 1 Series; launch soon

BMW India has started its marketing for the upcoming car, the 1 Series hatchback in the print media and in cyber space. The company has a new marketing campaign in place where individuals need to answer few questions and 10 lucky winners will get a chance to go on an all-expense paid trip to Germany. Once there, they will get a chance to drive the 1 Series with Sachin Tendulkar and a FIA GT 1 World Championship race driver, Armaan Ebrahim.

The BMW 1 Series will be the most affordable car from the German automaker in India and will compete with the recently launched Mercedes-Benz A-Class which has managed to get 400 bookings within just 10 days of the launch. It is likely that this development may have spurned BMW to pre-pone the launch date from the previously believed date in September.

The car will be imported to India via completely-knocked-down (CKD) route and then assembled at their Chennai facility. India is expected to get the five door model and options of three diesel and two petrol engines. There is also a possibility that at least one M badged vehicle from this range will come along a few months after the 1 Series is launched.

The entry level premium car market is heating up with offerings from German manufactures. Mercedes-Benz recently launched the A-Class hatchback for Rs 21.93 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai) and it has already garnered over 400 bookings this month. Audi is expected to follow suit with the A3 sedan and eventually the hatchback.

Luxury car makers are eyeing a bigger pie by launching their smallest and cheapest models in India, i guess Audi won't take much time either in bringing their entry level offering.

New BMW 1-series spied in India

BMW has started testing the soon-to-be-launched 1-series hatchback in India.

The 1-series is the smallest and most affordable BMW currently, and will be positioned to take on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz A-class in India. The current-generation model (Codename F20) has been on sale in international markets since September 2011.

At 4.2 metres long, the 1-series is almost as long as the Mercedes A-class. Expect cabin quality to be on the lines of the X3 and the 3-series.

Internationally, BMW sells the 1-series with the 1.6-litre petrol and the 2.0-litre diesel engine options. However, the Indian variants might share engines with the X1 in the interest of costs. This means a 2.0-litre, 181bhp diesel and a 150bhp, 2.0-litre petrol, with the distant possibility of a hot, 168bhp, direct-injection petrol option.

The car would be locally produced at the BMW plant in Chennai, so expect prices to be in the range of around Rs 20-25 lakh. An early September launch is expected.
