Ford India Sales Record 15,281 Vehicles in April

· Domestic wholesales at 7,428 units; Exports record 7,853 vehicles owing to new model launch planning in April

· Introduced cool, capable, connected compact utility vehicle, Ford Freestyle at an introductory starting price of INR 509,000

· Partnered with Indian Road Safety Campaign (IRSC) for a school outreach campaign to promote courteous road behaviour during Road Safety Week

NEW DELHI, India, May 1, 2018 – Ford India’s combined domestic wholesales and exports in April stood at 15,281 vehicles as compared to 25,149 in the same month last year.

The company’s domestic wholesales were stable at 7,428 vehicles in April from 7,618 vehicles in the same month last year. Exports recorded 7,853 units compared to 17,531 vehicles in April 2017 due to new model launch preparation for Freestyle.

Increasing inflation trajectory which might weigh on customer’s access and cost to credit, coupled with increasing crude prices could lead to passenger vehicle industry growing at low single digits - so far this year,” said Anurag Mehrotra, president and managing director, Ford India.

At Ford, we continue to execute our strategy of building a strong brand, introduce right products, ensure competitive costs and effective scale. As a result, so far this year, we have continued to grow faster than the industry, despite the new model launch planning in April.

The month of April saw Ford introduce India’s first Compact Utility Vehicle, Ford Freestyle at a compelling introductory price starting from INR 509,000.

The all-new global product from Ford combines SUV-like robust design, benchmark performance, innovative technologies and outstanding fuel efficiency – for greater choice to customers.

As part of our strategic pillar of Right Products, we are delighted to have launched Ford Freestyle that will create a new segment in the Indian market by tapping the SUV owning aspirations of our customers, at a small car price,” added Mehrotra.

The compact utility vehicle, Ford Freestyle has been introduced with an all-new 1.2L three-cylinder petrol engine, offering best-in-class 96PS peak power and 120 Nm torque. Freestyle will also be offered with Ford’s trusted 1.5L TDCi diesel engine that generates class-leading 100PS power and 215 Nm of torque.

Alongside strengthening its product portfolio, Ford also strengthened its efforts in making Indian roads safe and sane. The company joined hands with Indian Road Safety Campaign, Solve (IRSC) to raise awareness of issues like lack of pedestrian safety and lane driving, along with increasing road rage and distracted driving. Under the umbrella of Ford Cartesy, the awareness campaign was led by volunteers from IRSC and reached more than 5,000 students and their parents, during the road safety week in April.

I think they were changing platform , no Figo or Aspire was produced in April 18 and only a few Figo Freestyles were produced, that has affected Ford's April 18 Numbers.

Not just that, this is how Indian car market is, No other brand other than Hyundai and Maruti are allowed to grow in India.
The other things that affect Ford are Nexon, Tata has just made a supremely good product to fight Fords major seller Ecosport, so Nexon is definitely eating up a lot of market share, and that is a good sign in my mind because increase a competition rather than fighting uselessly against Maruti which will sell however good or bad the product maybe, so Nexon vs Ecosport will benefit both Tata and Ford, because this is a straight head to head that both will fight out and in effect the consumer will benefit from timely face lifts and better additions and discounts and offers.
Aspire facelift will be out by July as per some sources, so that it wil make sure it steals some jazz out of Amaze face lift, but days ahead are difficult for Ford as new Amaze is a job well done by Honda, space inisde is enormous, also boot is enormous and they have this ace combination of diesel Automatic which is sure to reach a lot of homes.
Ford must act swiftly to bring in Automatic cars before its too late.

Ford India on cost cutting mode – No plans to launch new car till 2020

Ford India has resorted to several cost cutting measures, reveals a report by Times of India. One of the many ways the company is cutting costs, is by not giving increment to employees this year. The company normally offers two annual increments to employees in March and October. This year, the October increment has been scrapped.

In addition to this Ford India is moving out of its more spacious and plush corporate office in Cyber City, Gurgaon to another location in the same city. The new Ford India office is not located in as plush a locality as Cyber City, neither it is as big as before.

2018-ford-ecosport-crash-test.jpg

The report adds that many of their employees will be moved to the Chennai office. These cost cutting measures began in 2016, which helped the company save 37% in costs as compared to 2015. The cost cutting exercise continued in 2017, which helped save 9% as compared to 2016. This year too, cost cutting exercise is increasing. The company has even slowed down its hiring process with many prime posts remaining vacant.

In spite of being in India since 20 years, Ford has managed to get a marginal share in the domestic market. Dwindling profits in India will also mean that there will be no new car launch from Ford by 2020.

ford-india-cost-cutting-launch-cancel.jpg
EcoSport continues to be best-selling Ford in India with average sales of 4,000 units a month.

Even as Ford India domestic sales have been found lacking, its export business is doing well and has accounted for nearly 65% of company profits. This makes one think, is the American car maker heading the GM way in India? GM exited India market, but continues to use India as a manufacturing hub. Though they do not sell any car in India, GM is one of the biggest car exporter in India.

Too early to say if Ford will follow the GM path in India or not. As of now, all plans to launch new products have been put on hold, the company will concentrate on facelifts of its current model lineup and on upgrading existing models according to BS VI emission norms which will be coming into the country from 2020. Facelifts of Ford Figo hatchback and Aspire compact sedan are slated for launch in India by the festive season along with a facelifted Endeavour sometime in 2019.

The company along with Mahindra is also working on a new SUV which will be based on the next gen XUV500 and this will be the first product from the Mahindra-Ford joint venture which is also slated for launch only in 2020.

Re: Ford India on cost cutting mode – No plans to launch new car till 2020

I think a lot will be at stake on the launch of the updated Figo twins...If they continue to not be a mass market car then one cannot help but compare with how it ended for GM in India .. Very difficult for a company to manage based on the success of a single car ( Eco Sport)

Also, will this report not further dampen the sales of newly launnched Freestyle and the upcoming Figo twins ??

Ford’s New Campaign Strengthens Feels Like Family Promise via Value of Ownership Message

NEW DELHI, Mar. 20, 2020:
Encouraging owners to make time for their loved ones, Ford India’s latest campaign showcases the company’s several innovations that can help enable such precious moments while strengthening the brand promise of ‘Feels Like Family’.

The series comprising three poignant stories, borrows from real-lives of today’s consumers who, caught up in their busy day-to-day lives, often find it difficult to spend time with their family & friends.

Throughout its emotional storytelling, the campaign showcases how transparent and reliable Ford service innovations play a significant role in helping customers spend priceless moments with their loved ones.

In all situations across the campaign, the protagonists make time for their loved ones on days reserved for getting their cars serviced. In each story, the self-assured Ford owners make time for their family members, while the Ford family takes care of servicing their car.

“In line with our Feels Like Family Promise, we want our customers to spend quality time with their loved ones & let the ecosystem of trustworthy and transparent service innovations take care of their favourite Ford,” said Rahul Gautam, vice president marketing, at Ford India.

“Through our research, we observed most of our owners block days for the servicing of their car. With our pick and drop facility, real-time SMS service updates & transparent online calculator aka service price promise, we want to make sure that servicing the car never prevents our owners from spending priceless moments with their loved ones.”

The first-film, going live on March 20, features a father who is playing carrom by himself, taking turns from each side to make the game interesting. The sudden arrival of his son and a conversation that ensues between the two adds an emotional dimension to the film. Click here to watch the son challenge his father to a carrom contest in the first Ford commercial.

Ford has been constantly innovating towards winning the trust of its customers through several innovative and first of their kind initiatives -- like Service Price Calculator – that allow them to know their car’s service and parts cost even before walking into the dealership.

Ford’s efforts on keeping the service cost low are validated by an independent Spare Parts Price Study conducted by India’s leading auto magazine Autocar. The survey rates Ford’s genuine parts amongst the most affordable.

Making it easier for consumers to know about Ford’s low cost-of-service, the company has now integrated service costs for each of its car lines with Google Assistance. A Ford owner just has to ask Google Assistant about a Ford car’s service cost and the search engine will do the rest.

The TVCs for the recent campaign comes from BBDO India under the creative supervision of Josy Paul, Akashneel Dasgupta & Shinjini Banerjee.

Ford EcoSport, with spends of about Rs. 21,754 for petrol and 27,882 for diesel over a 60,000-kilometre ownership cycle, once again set a benchmark.

In the Premium SUV segment, the study showed 2020 Endeavour to be nearly 12% cost-effective to maintain compared to the market leader.

While the Ford Endeavour owners spend just 71 paise per kilometre to maintain, those who drive its competing model spend 81 paise per kilometre to keep their SUV in shape.
