Bentley SUV Registers 2,000 Pre-Orders, Crewe Fights Bratislava for Production

As the Bentley SUV saga continues, the vehicle is getting closer and closer to entering the real world and it seems that Bentley has already registered 2,000 pre-orders for the vehicle, even though its production design hasn’t been shown yet.

COmpany CEO Wolfgang Schreiber recently made the information public and what makes things even more interesting is the fact that the price of the luxury SUV still remains unknown.

However, in order for the EXP 9F Concept you see in the adjacent image to become a production model, Bentley needs to appoint a factory. The carmaker’s home site, Crewe, is currently fighting with VW Group’s Bratislava plant in Slovakia - the winner will get to bring the Bentley SUV to the world.

Bratislava is being considered thanks to its industrial capacity, as it already produces the VW Group SUVs which the Bentley model will share its platform with: Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg.

On the other hand, Bentley’s Crewe plant has outstanding manufacturing capabilities, which is why, even if Bratislava gets the car, it will probably handle the interior of the Bentley SUV.

New Bentley SUV starts engineering tests

Expected to launch in late 2015, Bentley has started evaluating aerodynamics and engine cooling, among other engineering aspects on the upcoming SUV.
Because production tooling for the Bentley body is not yet available, engineers are using the Audi Q7's structural base to start work on the new SUV’s running gear, particularly calibrating the complex electrical system, which will feature well over 50 ECU control brains. With vital functions controlled electronically, engineers can calibrate the key items, like transmission, steering, damping, stability/traction control and air conditioning from inside the car via a laptop.
The Bentley is expected to be equipped with a twin-turbo W12 motor.

Fantasic looking SUV spied. Bentley 4x4 prototype being put through endurance testing in the Alps, ahead of a showroom launch in 2016.
This test car is registered with a 6.0-litre petrol engine, suggesting that the concept's W12 powerplant will make it into production. In Europe many buyers will prefer to order one of the lower-CO2 engines. The 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine is a no-brainer, diesels and Hybrids could be variants of this suv.

Shots show the prototype riding considerably lower than before - a hint that the engineers are currently testing the air suspension on mountainous roads.
The suspension will be part of the plethora of bespoke elements that will offer the Bentley an unique feel, despite the vehicle sharing the third-generation Volkswagen Group SUV architecture with future models such as the Lamborghini Urus the second-gen Audi Q7.
The SUV will be the brand’s first plug-in hybrid, a powertrain option that’s subsequently set to be offered for every model in the line-up.
