I am planning for Bangalore to Shirdi drive with my family during last week of Oct. We have 5 days only and we would like to cover the following:

- Shirdi
- Shani Shingapur
- Kolhapur
- Any one of Jyothirlanga
- Any other places worth going if time permits

My tentative plan:

DAY 1: 700+kms
Leave 5am from Bangalore
Take NH 4 till Satara
Halt at Satara

DAY 2: 300+ kms
Leave at 7am
Deviate towards Ahmednagar via Baramati
Reach Shani Shingapur by afternoon
Proceed to Shirdi
Complete Shirdi Darshan and Halt

DAY 3: 350+ kms
Leave 7am to Triambakeshwar via Sinnar
By evening proceed to Grishneshwar
Halt at Aurangabad

DAY 4: 250kms
Visit Ajanta - Ellora and other places
By night reach Kolhapur
Halt at Kolhapur

DAY 5:600+ kms
Early temple visit at Kolhapur
Leave to Bangalore

I will be the only driver and I have driven 600+ kms at a stretch. No problem with that. But, I would like to be cautious as well.
I am going to book hotels this week.

I am looking for information regarding road conditions/hotels/bypass routes if any.

Which are the good hotels near by Shirdi temple?
Any good hotels at Satara/Aurangabad and Kolhapur?
Any latest updates for these places?
How is the road condition from Nashik to Aurangabad?
How is the road condition from Satara to Ahmednagar via Baramati? This is to avoid Pune city.
Should I skip Triamb/Grish and visit BHimashankar?
Veggie eatouts on the way?
How is BLR-Hubli-Bijapur-Solapur-Kurkumbh-Ahmednagar route?
Also, advice me on the itinerary if its not in right places/routes.

Please advice.

All the best "white-rhino". I am not sure about the route or road conditions as you have asked for but you will be completely exhausted and that is for sure. How many such long trips you had performed in past ? Who all are there in the family with you on this tour ? If you have kid(s) or elderly people then I think, you need to add few more days in it. As traveling with kid(s) or elderly people is not that easy.

You did not mention anything about the ride you would be driving either. Add these details, I am sure people will be able to provide inputs based on that as well.

All the best.

I will be travelling with my in-laws, wife and 7yrs kid. Yes, I have elderly people but all are excited about the trip. And I would be travelling with my Scorpio MHawk.

I have done long trips down south in TN/KL/AP and KA. This will be the first time I will be going towards north of Karnataka. Of course, given the road conditions it is doable by all means.

Naganand, You should not skip the Triambakeshwara Temple. Just try to reach there as early in the morning as possible in order to avoid huge rush and long queues. At the time when I went to Shirdi, we started off at 4 AM from Silvassa and reached Triambakeshwara Temple at 7 AM. There still was a fair amount of rush but somehow we managed to get the darshan much quicker. Also, note that, many devotees come to Shirdi in the month of October, so weekend and Thursdays are best avoided if you are time bounded. I also went to Shani Shingrapur, although, it was a tiring three hour long drive in the noon but everything else was fine. By the way, don’t fell in the trap of those guides at toll before Shani Shingrapur. Apart of that, most of the visiting places related to Sai Baba are in or around the premises of their temple only. For example: Sai Baba’s Museum, Gurusthan, Dwarkamai, Chawdi, Lendi Bagh, Samadhi of Devotees etc. and Khandoba’s Temple is also nearby. Remember, these all are must visit. About the accommodation – There are plenty of good hotels for all budgets, but unfortunately, I cannot help in this regard because it’s been a few years since I went there and I also don’t remember the name of hotel in which I stayed. All I remember is, it was a couple of kilometres away and in the opposite direction of the main temple. Another tip: if you manage to find the parking next to the temple, try to keep all the shoes / other impermissible things inside the car itself (of course, except for expensive items). As far as the routes are concerned – I’m sure that mukeshus or pahujaamit will be able to perfectly guide you here. Good luck!

How is BLR-Hubli-Bijapur-Solapur-Kurkumbh-Ahmednagar route? this is the shortest route but strictly avoid it. Go to Kolhapur first. then proceed for satara.

Hi Naganand, i have done a trip to Shirdi.
5 days deadline would not be sufficient.
Even i did Shirdi & other places in 5 days, check my travelogue below.

I did Tryambakeshwar, but it takes lot of patience to wait in queue.
As elders are travelling with you, its better to skip this place.
Go after my travelogue once, and ask if you have any clarifications.

And don't make a mistake of taking deviation to Pune, while going to Shirdi.
Instead take deviation to right near Solapur.
As i missed this right and had to enter Pune city, confusing for 1st time visitors.
There was no proper sign board to deviation to Shirdi.

Instead we asked the local there, i went through Hadapsar bridge followed by Ahmadnagar Highway.
According to me Shirdi is doable in one stretch, but as you are lone driver.
Better to take some power naps at well lit places , near bunks.

Check my travelogue here:http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...galore-shirdi.html?highlight=bangalore+shirdi.

If you have further doubts, post here.
I would help you out.

Thanks @mukesh and @drivetech.

Need road condition update. As per drivetech, Hubli-Bijapur-Solapur is not in good shape.
Hence, I might take a deviation at Satara and reach ahmednagar. via Baramati.
How is this route and road condition?

As most of them suggested, I have narrowed down to following places:
Shani Shingapur
Shirdi
Aurangabad
Kolhapur

It was in Dec 2009 i had done this trip, and i missed Aurangabad badly.
So i guess 5 days would not be sufficient if you intend to visit Aurangabad, 1 week is needed atleast.

Sleep well before the trip, but due to excitement of trip you don't get sleep.
You can plan in this way,
Day 1:Go to Shirdi directly(21 hours of drive), rest from midnight till the morning.

Day 2:Finish darshan @ Shirdi.

Followed by Visit to Shani Signapur, beware of agents there near toll gates they give you visiting cards and follow you & pester to visit their stall.

Day 3:Visit Aurangabad.

Day 4:Followed by Pandarpur, which while returning you will be returning via Bijapur.
All through SH & no toll, while returning, upto Belgaum.

Mukesh:
As you said, I will visit Shirdi, Shingapur, Kolhapur for sure.
For Aurangabad/Nashik, I am still thinking.

Not very sure of making to Pandarpur.

Any suggestion on good hotels in these places?

We had stayed in Sai Tulsi Hotel in Shirdi, we had booked it for 12 hours.
What we did was Day one was dedicated to reach Shirdi, the very next day midnight 3 am to 10.30 am, rest in hotel.
11am-12 pm visit Sai Baba temple, Chawadi, and also near ATM you can find the jyothi of which Baba had lit.
Then we had food at the same place, Sai Tulsi has an adjacent Hotel.
Food was good.
Then after refreshment we left to Shani Signapur, which is just half an hour from Shirdi.
You will have to take left after a bridge.
So day 2 after vacating the room, you can leave to Aurangabad.
It all depends on how fast are the family members getting ready for the next place.

The Dhabha where we had stopped enroute Shirdi-Nashik

After Shani Signapur, we went towards Nashik, this was the only food place that was clean and served good food.
You will have to climb steps.
While on the way to Aurangabad, you can plan to Lenyadri for that day and there are some rooms for halting.
After Lenyadri you can leave to Ajanta & Ellora caves.

And one thing Dhaba's have excellent food than big hotels, and you can order Roti with curries.
As they are prepared well.

Shirdi to Shani Shingnapur is definitely not half an hour journey. And I’m sure about that.

Oops its 1 & half hour, Typo error!!!
@Naganand
We had stopped for cane juice and took some sugarcane for free from fields.
Be careful there are thorn trees at this narrow stretch.
If possible carry Til Oil from Bangalore 1 litre pack, the rate these agents charge is exhoribitant.
They charge you by seeing the vehicle.
Once you offer the oil, you need to carry the oil upto the idol of Shani.
The so called bathrooms are very dirty, carry some orange dhothi yourselves.
And you have to take bath in cold water, and go inside with wet towel.
If you are just praying, i think you need not do these formalities.
Don't fall prey to these agents at a toll gate, they follow you until you reach their stall.
As we knew what prices they would be charging, as our relatives had been there.
We did only that much, & don't bring those doll etc, leave everything you purchase from the stall there inside the temple.
A leaf has to be piereced into trishoola.
Followed by dropping those Agarbhattis, in a container.
Just follow the queue.
They say parking is free if you park in front of threir stall & purchase their only.
Don't park your car where they sell food, as the cylinder had caught fire & whole parking lot was empty.
Once you offer oil to deity, one must never turn back.

Drive safe.

IMO this will be good road, only Nira to Baramati passage might be not that good but not that much problematic.

In case if you want to pass through pune city via NH then call me I will guide you to pass it fast.

Which places are good for filling Diesel on the way? Satara/Ahmednagar/Aurangabad/Shirdi/Nashik/Kolhapur
How is the road condition from Aurangabad to Shirdi/Nashik?

Now I am planning for 6 days trip. Hence I would stay at Aurangabad.
How much time should I plan for visiting Ajanta/Ellora and Grishneshwar?
Should I hire a cab or go in my own vehicle?

Plan is changed a little.

Bangalore - Satara (Halt) - Ahmednagar - Aurangabad (Halt)
Aurangabad - Shirdi (Halt)
Shirdi - Nashik - Triamb - Bhimashankar - Kolhapur (Halt)
Kolhapur - Hubli - Bangalore

Please suggest any specific medicines for Dizziness/Vomiting/Body Ache/Nausea/Travel Sickness. Becos, I will have 2 elders of 60+ and 1 kid of 7+.
Any issues with drinking water? Should I stick to mineral all along?

My wife was asking which are the best places to shop. And what to shop? Items?
Not sure if I will have time for this. But, good to know these.

And what may be the normal food expenses for 5 people on an average? Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner.

Hotels Planned:
