Hi
I just happened to join this forum. I am planning to drive from Bangalore to Mangalore on 13th Aug. The last update on this route was on 10th May 2014. The rains might have caused damage to the Ghat Section by now. Any update on the current road condition would be highly appreciated. ? I was also contemplating taking the Mysore Madikeri Sullia Puttur route if the Hassan -Sakleshpur-Puttur via Shiradi Ghat was bad. Hope someone can help me decide which route to take.

Planning a trip to mangalore end of december. Shiradi will be closed from dec 15th. My previous trips have been through charmadi (which is very good). Anyone has idea of the road conditions through sampaje?

I travelled on both routes just about a month back, I wouldn't take sampaje, as there are lot of area between Sampaje and Puttur are gone bad. You constantly need to be on 2nd gear. I felt the Shiradi was better. If its closed probably the Charmadi is the best option IMO.

Friends,
Shiradi Ghat will be closed for reconstruction on 25-Dec-2014 for 6 months
Agumbe Ghat will be closed for road widening on 26-Dec-2014 for 3 months as per official announcement.

I drive from Bangalore to Kundapur/Udupi through Hulikal Ghat (Bangalore - Shimoga - thirthahalli - Hulikal ghat). Road is in excellent conditon till Kundapur.

Bengaluru - Hassan - Sakleshpur - Shiradi - BC Road - Mangaluru. Many potholes are already filled between BC road and Gundya section.
If your destination is Udupi, then take Dharmasthala deviation after Gundya (bottom of Shiradi Ghat). Dharmasthala, Ujire - Belthangady - Naravi - Bajagoli - Karkala - Padubidri - Udupi is in good condition.
