While Ashok Leyland was supposed to launch the Stile on October 8th (tomorrow), turns out the prices are already available! This rebadged Nissan Evalia will have a starting price of INR 7.49 lakhs (ex-Showroom, New Delhi).

The Ashok Leyland Stile will be available in three variants, all of them featuring power steering and air conditioning as standard. Powering the Stile would the same 1.5-liter Renault-sourced K9K diesel engine, albeit in a lower state of tune. Where the Evalia offers 84.8bhp and 200Nm of torque, the Stile produces 75bhp and 185Nm of torque.

This retuning has been done to further improve the fuel efficiency, which our sources mention is rated at 22.5km/l (the Evalia is rated at 19.3km/l). Additionally, a CNG variant would also be offered to those preferring a lower running cost. Apart from this, the mechanicals are the same as that of the Evalia and the Stile will be produced at the same Oragadam plant of the Renault-Nissan alliance

Ashok Leyland has managed to price the Stile about INR 1.21 lakhs lower than the Evalia (the base Evalia XE retails at INR 8.7 lakhs ex-Showroom, New Delhi). The lower price would certainly appeal to the fleet operators, hotel shuttle providers, panel van operators, courier services, etc, who are defined as the target audience of this vehicle

M S Dhoni unveils Ashok Leyland ‘STILE’ MPV

• The most fuel efficient vehicle in its category
• Competitively priced, starting at Rs.7.49 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi)

New Delhi: October 7th, 2013: The Hinduja Group flagship, Ashok Leyland today launched the STILE, a stylish Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) based on a contemporary, award-winning vehicle platform. The Company’s brand ambassador, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, unveiled the ‘STILE’ at a press conference held in New Delhi, today. STILE will follow the highly successful DOST as the second product offering from Ashok Leyland’s fast-growing Light Vehicle business and was developed by the Ashok Leyland–Nissan Motor Company Joint Venture. The Ashok Leyland STILE will roll out from Nissan’s manufacturing plant at Oragadam, near Chennai.

In an economic environment where cost of fuel is of significant concern, the STILE MPV will offer the Indian customer best-in-class fuel efficiency of 19.5 kmpl (as certified by ARAI) as well as global levels of performance and comfort. STILE is powered by an advanced globally acclaimed Common Rail diesel engine, which is tuned for excellent driveability and low NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness). The STILE will address various applications like 7-8 seater people transport in the urban and rural areas, hotel shuttles, taxi services, ambulances, panel vans, courier services, inter-city and intra-city travel.

STILE was designed to represent modern global styling trends. The monocoque body construction makes for lower weight; while for passengers it translates into car-like comfort, excellent ride quality and greater safety. The interiors are well-appointed with superior ergonomics. The low floor feature makes for easy entry and exit, while sliding doors on both sides allow for easy access in tight parking spaces. STILE will be available in Diesel, with a wide choice of seating options of 2 and 3 rows (7 and 8 seats) with maximum interior space for occupants and their luggage. STILE comes with end-user friendly features like dual rear A/C vents for effective air-conditioning at the rear.

Speaking at the launch occasion, Dr. V Sumantran, Vice Chairman, Ashok Leyland, said, “We are extremely delighted to launch the second product from the Ashok Leyland Nissan JV, which we believe, will change the dynamics of Indian MPVs. With STILE, our mission was clear – to deliver to the Indian customer, a contemporary MPV with lots of space, contemporary styling, comfort features and most of all, class-leading fuel efficiency. STILE is developed on a trusted and reliable vehicle platform that reflects our continued focus on offering Japanese Technology and Quality at Indian Cost. With the STILE also in our portfolio, we are now better positioned to cater to a wider customer base and range of transportation needs.”

Friends,

Ashok Leyland has decided to switch off its MPV production and concentrate on its core business of commercial vehicles.

"We have stopped production of STILE. It was not doing well as expected. We may reenter the segment if we see prospects," managing director Vinod K. Dasari
