Asia MotorWorks (AMW) has inaugurated a dealership in Hubli. The dealership, KDM Motors, is AMW’s fourth in Karnataka and will offer sales, service and spares under one roof. It offers a service facility which can cater to four trucks simultaneously and also has two additional bays for vehicle inspection and washing. Currently AMW has 53 service touch points in Karnataka.

Commenting on the opening of the new dealership, A.Rama Subramanian, president AMW said,
“We are confident that KDM Motors will strengthen AMW’s position in the key Karnataka market. This state of the art facility meets AMW’s highest standards and will offer our customers a totally modern purchase and ownership experience.”

Asia MotorWorks (AMW), India’s third largest heavy commercial vehicle manufacturer, has entered into an agreement with MyTVS under which AMW customers would obtain service at MyTVS outlets across the country. The agreement which covers all AMW haulage and tractor models operating on Indian roads came into effect from April 1.

With this agreement signed between the two on March 19, AMW gains access to MyTVS’ vast service network with 1,157 outlets spread across 763 locations. The services to be provided include minor repair jobs that would allow the vehicle to continue on its journey until it reaches an AMW authorized service outlet.

MyTVS is part of the TVS Group and offers multi-brand car services and emergency breakdown assistance for mechanical and electrical faults. It also offers ambulances, cabs, winch and towing services as well as legal co-ordination assistance. This is its first initiative for trucks in association with AMW.

The agreement also includes plans to expand this reach to more MyTVS outlets in the future. AMW would also be using these outlets to sell its spare parts, which would add to customer convenience and enhance vehicle uptime.

Okay anyone here with the history of this company? AMW trucks are doing good in Southern India along with AL.

It is 7 yr old co. & was started by relative of Ruia or Essar group (they also have holding in Indian operations of Vodafone). Got some info here -

I have seen AMW trucks in flesh & they look quite cheap. Any idea about pricing ?

AMW is a success story and its surprising too.

With Cummins engine (that is the best part in an AMW), Chinese Chassis and ZF gearbox. Even the entire cabin is imported from China as fully built in.

It seems they have overtaken Volvo-Eicher and became the third largest Commercial Vehicle supplier in India with a market share of about 10% behind Tata Motors (66% market share) and Ashok Leyland (22%)

AMW has indeed been a very great success story with in a short span of time they established their brand, going forward they will be building their own cab.

No. Chassis frame is 100% local (Few in-house made parts and few out-sourced)

Even the entire cabin is imported from China as fully built in.
Not in every case. Panels were imported from China, welded and Painted in-house.

AMW is classic case of buy ready-made, assemble & sell. To me, AMW is more like shop-keeper rather than manufacturer. What I just feel is making things like trucks, 100% based on someone else is risky, more for buyers. If suppliers go bust or something goes wrong, you get issues of spares.

Just look at XUV AT. Gearbox co. went bust & the launch delayed by 2 yrs min.

AMW has got dual source for almost all aggregated (except Cab & Engine)
If there are some problem with one supplier, switch over to the other [:D]

Just kidding, I agree with your point.

India’s third largest heavy commercial vehicle manufacturer, Asia Motor Works (AMW) grew strongly during the year ended March 2012, with its sales rising by 50 percent to 10,000 trucks. The company also became the second largest player in the fast growing Tipper segment with a 25 percent market share, outpacing established players that have been in the market for decades. AMW’s sales growth is well in excess of the overall HCV market which is estimated to have grown by 8 percent during 2011-12. During the previous year AMW also launched 11 new models including the 1618 Tipper model, as well as its haulage range of trucks, which gives the company expanded access to the overall HCV market.
This strong performance is all the more creditable considering the headwinds that have affected the Indian commercial vehicle market during the previous year. Great news, i see AMW's growth is rocketing fast. And did you say its the second largest seller in the tipper range? then AL went down to the 3rd?

With the recent news of service centers being opened, AMW definitely has good market share and what makes them to have such a strong base is that they only concentrate in the Trucks range.
