The investigation on this matter concluded by saying its an isolated case, a badly wired battery was the issue, and this was due to some human error and wont affect all other Everest SUVs

Ford Everest fire caused by loose battery connection- Car News | CarsGuide

Anyway due to Chennai floods and related issues the new Endeavor is going to get pushed back even further probably to February 2016

This is very much possible. Have seen Audi R8, Maruti Celerio etc catching fire on the run. I would say human error is pure bad luck of the owner and is bound to happen with any brand.

Secondly, all cars must have the auto unlocking feature in case of such events, so that the driver and occupants can get out of the car immediately. Most of the cars do get unlocked but have seen a Celerio diesel recently catching fire on the run and the owner couldn't escape from the car.

In the Everest case the electronics malfunctioned so the auto door unlock all got damaged, so there was no escape route other than boot door, it was a near miss, still the customers of Australia are somehwhat fans of Ford cars and now they have started questioning it.

Is there a car manufacturer who gives commitment or assurance for 100% fool-proof electrical? Even if an accident like this happened, will they accept that there was a mistake in their part?
We have heard such incidents every now and then, and then forget to follow that up.

BTW, I heard from my friend (who is supplying electrical) that there is a huge possibility for a delay in launch as his company is sunk in the flood in Chennai. Not a good news to those who wait.

Yes, glad that the driver was able to escape. But its obivious to raise questions for two reasons:
1. The doors didn't unlock as the wining was damaged, but this shouldn't happen. The wiring system has to be fire proof or damage proof or implement such a system that the doors get unlocked under any circumstances.
2. If you closely observe the accident with the Everest, there are reports that there were a series of short explosions in the car and it took nearly 15 minutes to pacify the fire. Now this is really worrisome, and doubts the kind of material used in the cabin.

If its a major design and materials flaw, the manufacturer "has to" and will accept the fault on their side. As far as I believe, Ford is quite a listener to such cases and they do research the same.
Its better they delay for any reason, but they should make sure to deliver a safe and defect free car once launched.

Its a basic electrical defect so the wiring might have fried its computer brain that thinks by heavy electrical discharge, if thats the case the cars electronics are just a set of parallel connected circuits that work based on potential coming to its terminals, so probably the systems might have messed up and auto door locks might have turned on/off and the thing would have become a whole mess,
This if as described by For Australia is a humane error there is nothing one can do, all branded cars with such a humane error will exhibit same character
About the explosions and long burning materials, if those materials make car strong and more resistant to heat and paint corrosion most brands will opt for such things.
Any car after starting to burn is a mess to stop, here it seems like internal wires all had burns that kept on increasing fire.
