Re: A Lazy Drive Across a Mountain and Some Forests…
Thanks for the information HR.
Couple of times in Ooty, I stayed in TTDC Youth Hostel and its an ok kind of accommodation. They have good parking, close to the town and walkable distance to Botanical gardens etc. And the permit room is also ok.
I never tried in Kanyakumari. Kodai, I had a bitter experience. Once I parked my car (Lancer) in the parking area, and they were painting an EB transformer and dropped all the paint on top of the car. I had a big fight with them, and finally I had to do a full painting of my car.
During my stay at Yercaud also, I too didn't find anything unpleasant.
Sorry you had to repaint your Lancer for someone's negligence.
Peter,
Lovely pictures!!! You sure have a command over your clicks.
I just keep going through them again and again. Great job!!!
Thank you, Fyzy09. Appreciate you comments.
The road from Pykara to Mudumalai had a couple of real bad patch/cut on the road.

The road...
It was raining till we reached Mudumalai. We stopped for lunch at a hotel near Gudalur. The hotel had parking and the food was, sort of, ok.
We stopped at a vegetable shop near there and as I was waiting for the shopping to get over I noticed some movement in the shrubs on the opposite side of the road. Quickly grabbed the camera and crossed over and found this.

Luckily the rain stopped by the time we entered the forest. As is my usual practice, engaged the second gear eased off from the throttle and let the car roll on the idling speed through the forest - throttling only for inclines. This way we can enjoy the beauty of the forest and also sight some wildlife.
The first sighting was a lone Elephant which was standing about 10 feet from the road behind a bush on the left side facing us. Since the Elephant was very close to the road and I spotted it late, I drove by it and stopped after crossing it. My wife could only take a picture of the back. By then a forest officials driving by asked us to move on. Since we did not get a good shot, I wanted to take a U turn. But the forest jeep was going very slowly and it was more than a km later that they got out of our sight. But it was too late to turn back as elephants can disappear into a forest within seconds.
Later on we sighted the usual spotted deers and wild boars...
Not a worry... not a care...
An angry Deer...
Spotted Dove way up on a tree...
