The Face-lift of Skoda Superb had been launched in 2014. Since the launch I never got a chance to drive it as either I was busy with my commitments or either would be traveling to Mumbai. However, today, got the opportunity to take a Test Drive as I told dad that since we are planning to upgrade to a new car in near future so why not go in for something that is comfortable, luxurious to the core and can fit me and him easily[lol]. Thus, paid a visit to JAI Auto Mathura Road, New Delhi and took the test drive of the Petrol AT (TSI) that is having a 1.8L, 4 Cylinder Engine. I really enjoyed the overall performance of the petrol engine as it did not appear to be sluggish. The responsiveness was really good and the pickup was also decent but while driving one can easily feel that he/she is not driving a Sedan rather its like controlling a big ship in the sea. The front of the car is really long but thanks to front parking sensors which help in maintaining adequate distance from the vehicles in front.

Here is 2015 Price List For All Skoda Models

Knowing well that this model of Skoda Superb shall be obsolete by next year when the recently unveiled Skoda Superb shall make its way to the market. To be honest, this present design stands no where in front of the new Skoda Superb. Coming back to this version, the present Skoda Superb boasts of exemplary comfort and sheer luxury which probably one may find in cars above 45-50 Lac mark. I was shocked to learn that Skoda Superb's on road price in Delhi is around 25 Lac. The cabin feels so big and spacious that one feels like sitting in a limo.

The seating comfort is actually superlative. The plush rear seats make you feel cuddled and feels like traveling business class. One thing that I found was that the rear seat's width was a tad less and I don't think in this way we can say that Superb is a 5 seater. The center console in the rear does provide the ease of having accessories like Cup Holder and does give an uber luxurious feel. The rear center console also have good open-able storage space too which can be used to your gadgets in place while traveling but the width of the console takes up too much of space in which at-least a child could sit.

Have a look at the sheer length of this car[glasses]! Its indeed massive but what made me have a good laugh was that unlike many cars of this size would have a big elevated FM antenna on the roof but Superb as true to its name had a small size antenna which gelled well with the overall look. The elegance of the Superb is further enhanced with the chrome molding on the windows and the awesome looking Black pillars.

Re: Skoda Superb 2014 Petrol AT Driven.

What I Liked

* Massive Looks: I am all game for big (read impossibly big[lol]) cars. Though I may not even think about driving it if I own but still I'll be content with the fact that I own a big car. I know its funny but come on, who gets a limo like car for 1/3rd the price of limo.

* Contemporary External and Internal Styling: Of all the previous generation Skoda Superb(s), this one is really sharp and yet elegantly designed with no unwanted edges and curves. Even inside the cabin, each and every line looks symmetrical and this is what actually lives up for this big car to be called as Superb.

* Cruise Control: Where will I ever use it? Delhi Traffic doesn't allow to drive using Cruise Control. On a lighter note, For us it is difficult to drive in normal conditions in Delhi. But Cruise Control surely would enhance the driving pleasure and if I get a chance, I'll be happy to experience it for once.

* Safety: Has 8 Airbags along with ABS, Traction Control, EBD, Stability Control et al. Apart from these, what I was impressed about was the build quality. Man!! Just try opening the door and you'll experience the sheer strength.

* External Lights Design: Bi Xenon Projector Head lamps with washers and DRLs and C Shaped Rear Lights with LEDs. The design of the projector headlamps is beautiful and well crafted. The rear lamps have that conventional looks but the LEDs lend a sharp look to them. The extensions of rear lamps also complement the design very well as I feel.

* Rain Sensing IRVM: This is something interesting to me since the executive there told that the electrical IRVM has a minute rain sensor at the back.

* More than needful legroom: Now this is something that concerns me the most. Me and my dad are both tall and with the cars that we have, it is impossible to enjoy a comfortable leg space inside the cabin. So, thankfully Superb does tick the box for this particular requirement.

* Free Umbrella provided to all owners: Thankfully it would save me about 100 Rupees. But its reliability is a question though as its from SKODA!

* The thigh support: It is pretty decent to begin with and something you can surely live with and don't need to constantly complain about it.

* Upholstery: The Fabric used in the cabin, seats, roof, doors is really well finished though only issue is the upkeep since in Delhi or any part of India, Beige interiors have a short life span.

free umbrella and a holder :P which has a drainage system to drain the excess rain. This car beats the 5er or even the e class costing a fraction

Re: Skoda Superb 2014 Petrol AT Driven.

What Could be Better

* Aftersales: After sales as you all know holds the key to a product's success and a brand's respect. Skoda in its home country Czech Repulic has immense respect and their products there are doing well and also enjoy owner's respect. However, same may not be true for the Indian market with regards to SKODA. All car of Skoda excluding Rapid has faced issues of reliability in the long term. Even Superb has the issue with its transmission. Skoda in India hasn't been that successful and simply due to lack of customer oriented approach some of the best products of SKODA have suffered. Today the perceptions of people have sharply changed towards owning or referring a SKODA Car.

* Position Of Start and Stop Button: Now this something which I feel should be looked into. The position of the Button is at the convention key-hole position. In other push-button cars that I have driven including the CIAZ, the placement of the start stop button is right behind the steering either on right or the left side. For me it was a bit of issue as I am not accustomed to this position of button.

* The End-Can Of Exhaust: The end can of the exhaust can be seen if one bends a bit. This is a sort of eye sore. A case of may be improper attention to detail.

* In-appropriate Ground Clearance: The Ground Clearance of this Skoda Superb is only 159mm which makes it easy prey to the potholes and speed bumps and the end-can at rear can rub against the breakers in some cases. No matter even if it has good suspension setup to make the ride comfortable but the lower GC will ruin your happiness surely. It becomes bit difficult to come out of the car for tall people.

So friends, As I am concluding this Test Drive Report, I am happy to say that this car is actually worth the money for the luxury and comfort it offers. Right from the brilliant paint finish to the plush cabin this car is True to its name "SUPERB". The only thing that is hampering it is the SKODA's brand image in India because of which its been difficult for the brand to cater and convince the buyers in this segment.
