Why Do Certain Cars Smell of Gas Leakage? (Non-Gas Powered Ones)

I've noticed that the exhaust of many high end cars smell like gas (lpg )leakage, even if the cars don't run on gas.

my xuv 500 thunderbolt does this.
so. does Tata safari 3.0L.

both are diesels and totally stock.

This might be because of catalytic converters. They remove the black smoke and try give out enviroment friendly smoke. This is now nearly present in all the new cars and even in my BMW X3 and Skoda Rapid

I did suspect that. but isn't the gas like smell (I guess it's butane or something ) just as harmful as other pollutants?

clj, can you check if your x3 exhaust also smells? it's more noticeable when returning from long trip and covered parking.
