When going back to home from office, on Mundwa bridge one car was burning like hell. I was on opposite side hence couldn't get the details but just seen "Ford" logo at its back. Either it was Ford Fiesta or Ford Classic. The flames were seen clearly coming out from engine bay, hope everyone was out of it and no one was injured.

I daily commute on this road via Mudhwa bridge which has stretch of approx 200-300 meters. The road coming to this bridge carry's traffic so that one needs to crawl for more that 30 min using 1st gear. Just curious to know that driving on lower (1st) gear for long time do heat the engine to extent that it could catch fire?

Re: Any relation with lower gears and fire?

There have been reported case of fire in cars with engine on,AC on and not moving ,as the cooling was not happening adequately and fire happened as some wires got short circuited. If we agree to this statement ,there is a possibility of slow, crawling traffic creating more heat inside the engine bay and subsequent fire. Manufacturers will not agree with this ,but yes there is a 2% chance IMO.
