Is it also possible to integrate the Brake, Accelerator Functions available to the Driver
available on the Steering wheel to the Driver through re-engineering process ?.

If it is possible, then do you feel this could be advantageous to the current acceleration, braking mechanism available to the driver near the feet ?.

Thanks & Regards,

Re: Power Steering functions.

I dont think that those buttons are the brake and accelerate buttons, but are normal steering mounted control for music, bluetooth telephone etc.

Possible = Yes
Feasible = yes (loads of money though)
Advisable = No
Reliable = No

If this was advisable, then it would already be in use in F1 (which is considered innovation powerhouse).
Also it robs you of the feel, because it would work as as an on-off switch.

Imagine you want to come to halt suddenly, this would not help, because the car would coast slowly to a stop.

Thank you.

If it is possible to design Brake, Accelerator Functions within steering vehicle, it will be also applicable to implement Brake, Accelerator Functions for Power Steering in Heavy vehicles viz Bus, Truck, Tempos, Lorries etc apart from Medium Class vehicles Cars, Jeeps, Tractors etc ?.

Possible, but won't be practical.

Let's think of a concept, where we have brake control on LH side and accelerator control on the RH side of steering. When the steering wheel is rotated 180 deg, these control buttons will be exactly on the opposite sides and we (human) can't always keep track of where the buttons are.

Concept may sound good for toy cars / kids electric cars and not road worthy.

When everything is drive by wire ,this is possible. But the catch is already there are too many controls on the steering wheel.I am talking about the stereo and radio controls. Add to that when the steering rotates you have to keep track where is the switch.This becomes very cumbersome.For eg.lets say left side switch is for brakes and right for acceleration.When the steering is turned 180 degree this is changed and the driver can make a mistake easily. So this idea needs more research.

Thank you.

Maybe the Soft keys controls made of rubber or any other alternative material identifying the two functions for applying Brake and Acceleration on the steering wheel is painted with Red and Green color respectively ?.

Also Brake and Accelerate Text written on the soft keys controls can help for identifying the two functions ?.

Will work for gaming, not for driving.

You sort of get Accelerator on Steering via Cruize control. My XUV has a + Overtake button than increases speed like full throttle. However Brake would be totally different story.

You wouldn't want brakes to fail just because some wire or sensor broke. Broken Accelerator is OK sometimes. but broken brakes is death.

AT ONE TIME - You can do max two things at a time if only two hands are used & can do max 4 things if 2 hand + 2 feet, e.g. in emergency. So if brake + clutch + steering control, all are on steering wheel, difficult to operate them at a time in emergency.

Also if multiple buttons are there, difficult to operate them quickly & accurately, e.g. playing games with general keybord & dedicated keyboard/joystick - on general keyboard, there is always a chance that different key is pressed rather than intended key. Same way, music, mobile, cruise, brake, clutch - too many switches always carry a risk that one is pressed instead of another, & think if mobile or cruise button is pressed instead of brake or clutch.

So I think, whatever we do now is BEST [:)]

Cruise control serves this purpose though not exactly. My odyssey does have steering controls to increase/decrease speed when in cruise mode.
