hello guys
i am new to this forum and found this forum very imformative and helpful.

Guys , last week , my Hyundai I20 diesel was being driven in rain

It stopped due to excess water on road. i didn't start the car then and get its air filters cleaned.it got fine but

after 2 days , my car showed a major lag in the pickup , and mechanic told me that water maybe touched MAF (MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR) as There is problem in MAF Sensor and car shows LAG due to fault in MAF sensor.

then he removed cable / deplugged MAF Sensor , and my car is working well without it.
i am driving it without MAF from last week.

can anyone here tell me if there is any disadvantage / Harm in driving without MAF Sensor?

and how / from where can i get it repaired or replaced?
as authorized dealers of Hyundai telling me to replace it and it costs 15k..

do i have any other choices? or should i go to company and get it replaced?

a reply is appreciated. thanks guys

Can you share, how old is your car, and approx how many kms have you covered.
MAF Sensors decides the air intake for your car, and its not good to run without it for a longer period, as your cars Fuel intake would increase more without them.
In low speeds the intake of fuel and air decides these sensors and without them the fuel intake would increase and decrease the air intake.Noise would get more with more speed you drive.
Advisable to check with other HASS/or your known mechanic or service centre.
I really have no idea that can the MAF sensors be repaired or needed to be replaced only. But you can ask your known service centres/authorised or local workshops whom are knowns.

Thanks for the reply vijay.

My car completed 35000 kms and it was bought in April 2011.

i checked with service stations , they only believe in replacements.

i checked internet , MAF sensor cleaner by CRC is the option to get it cleaned. 90% chances is that it will work after cleaning , as some dust or outside particles reached due to rain.

But problem is that cleaner is not available in India.

for now , i am driving with MAF unplugged.

MAF gives the values / data to EU / Computer to compute air . fuel flow.
and without MAF , i guess the engine and EU/Computer works on default values.
i dont know if every car does that way.

is it right?

i guess i can find MAF in delhi , near kashmiri gate. there is very big car spares market..anyone hav idea?

Hi please post the picture also you can try to clean it using carb cleaner, please wire the sensor back disconnect the battery for 15 - 20 minutes & then try, also get the car scanned to see if there are any codes.
