Alto LXi: Steering Seems To Get Locked on Straight Roads

When I am driving on highway at say 60kmph and in a straight patch and leave the steering untouched at the straight position for like 4 secs or so and then try to turn it, it seems to get locked. I have to apply a little force to turn it both left or right.
What could be the problem?

It would be because of the VSS sensor which controls the Power steering. After the car crosses 60 kmph the PS would be turned off. May be issue with the control module of EPS.

Is that how it's supposed to work? I mean PS turns off after a certain speed limit?

Yes it turns off after 60kmph, so at high speeds the steering would be harder, in your case as you have mentioned it gets stuck get it checked.

electronic power steering cuts or slows down at higher speeds for safety purpose.
