5 killed, 13 hurt in two road accidents

Chennai: At least five persons were killed in two road accidents in Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur on Monday. In an incident at Maduranthankam, a car rammed a tanker lorry traveling in the same direction at 5.30am. Three persons died and six were injured. In another accident near Tiruttani, two passengers in an autorickshaw were killed and seven injured.
In the incident near Maduranthankam, a speeding car rammed a parked tanker lorry on Monday morning. Police said the family was coming to the city from Pudukottai with their newlywed son and daughter-in-law to set up home. The driver Saravanan fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into the parked lorry.
Minor Raj, his wife Kamalamma, son Vinod, daughterin-law Sujitha and a relative Bhanumathi were in the car. Minor Raj and his wife died on the spot while Bhanumathi died in hospital. Saravanan was admitted in Chengalpet General Hospital while four others are undergoing treatment in Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital in Chennai. Police moved the bodies to the morgue and are investigating.
In the incident at Tiruttani, a tipper lorry laden with blue metal rammed an autorickshaw travelling in the same direction. Neela, 40 and Gowri Naidu, 42, both from Ramanchery, were killed. Seven other passengers were injured.
The victims were travelling from Tiruttani to Kanagammachathiram when the accident took place. The bodies were taken to the government hospital in Tiruvallur for autopsy. The injured were admitted in the same hospital. Kanagammachathiram police have registered a case.
The first accident proves that most of the accident happens at early hours of the day when the drive slept on wheels. I have seen so many accidents [especially cars] happens at this time and the driver is slept on wheels.
