Yesterday I was driving my Ertiga Zxi through a very bad part of Bangalore road (something we can't live without these days :( ) in the first gear under 10 Kmph speed when I realised that the horn was not working after 1st service. I kind of got distracted for a few moment during which the tempo in front of me breaked suddenly and I didn't have time to stop the car in time. The end result, I bangaged the tempo from behind with well under 10 Kmph speed but the front bumper is damaged needs replacement, one headlight is broken from inside(i.e. reflector due to impact vibration) also the bonnet is crumbled slightly not sure what they will do with it. The green coolant started leaking so had to tow the car to the gaurage and I am now told that may be the fan assembly and the AC condensor unit needs inspection and estimation is about 50K. Now I wonder if this is the kind of damage with 10 Kmph speed, what will happen on the highway if something happens???? Am I safe to take it on the highway with over 100 Kmph at times.
My Wife drives my 12 year old Daewoo Matiz and frequently gets in to such a situation for ZERO damage.
I think though the design of ertiga is well thought for Indian condition from inside of the car, bur the engine compartments needs a serious relook. I remember some one pointing this out in one of the reviews that the condensor unit is very close to the bumper and can be risky on bumper to bumper trafic, but I never expected that it was this bad.
Hope the Maruti Engineers work on this based on the indian road condition. Also use the matrials that worth the price tag of 10 Lakh. BTW
I am not unhappy with the Car or its performance, its exactly what I was looking for from the practicality and utility, its just that the cost cutting is seen in many places.
Can someone help me understand; if I put a bull bar in the front like in some SUV, will it help me save some money in future for accidents like this?. This may mess up front the looks but hey! can save me a lot of money in future. Any thoughts?
