A little late to reply, but i checked it from the VW people and it seems to be a warning feature only. It is better to keep the engine running idle for almost 5 minutes before pressing on the accelerator peddle so that the engine is warm enough. Cold starts without warming up the engine reduces the life of the engine considerably as i was told. Plus affects the fuel efficiency too, lowering down by upto 20-25%.
A little update on my Polo's recent fuel efficiency figures.
Measured by Tankful to Tankful auto-cut method filled from the same Oil Pump.
Distance travelled - 336kms (50% City & 50% Highway) with heater on almost 100% times. (Outside minimum temperature was around 1-3 degrees celcius)
Fuel Consumed - 17.8 Liters
Fuel efficiency - 18.87kmpl
Could have been better if the heater was off and if i drove sedately on the highway below the three digit figures.
ODOMETER current reading stands at 9500kms in 9 months. It has been an absolute niggle free ownership till now. Plus the VW services atleast in my town are top notch. Ready to respond to your query at any point of time and revert back on their own to check if the car is doing fine. Kudos to that.
