ok guys heres the do it your self fluidic verna air conditoner filter cleaning. A dirty filter will hamper cooling and also the dust particles can make its way to the evaporator coil.
when ever doing a diy always be patient and gentle. try not to run the ac without a filter installed
the filter can be vacuumed as well as wash under a stream of water and dipped in mild detergent. as with any ac filters never use hot water as it can shrink and never let to dry in direct sun just shake the water of and let it dry in a shade. the airflow is from top to bottom so while vacuuming you vacuum the upper side its clearly marked on the filter and while washing under a stream you pass water from the side which faces down.
its better if you clean the filter at 5000kms interval and lesser if you use fresh air intake mode a lot or drive through dusty roads. The filter should cost over rs 1000 so please do not damage it. to reach the filter we need to open the glove box. please remove anything from the glove box and turn the two knobs clock wise to unlock and pull them out, you can either let the compartment rest on its hinges but be cautious so as to not put weight or pressure on it or just pull the glove box gently holding the end where it meets the hinges.(i prefer letting the glove box rest on its hinges)
the filter cover has two locks one on each side. for each lock you need to gently squeeze it towards each other and gently pull it towards you to unlock, you either pull one side up just a tiny bit till its unlocked and go on the other side or use both hands and do it. the cover will only fit in on direction. you can see white markings already on the locks the outer most prongs have to be gently squeezed towards each other. do no damage the locking system or you will have a leak and lots of noise.
next you grab the filter and gently pull it out
what you see here is the blower assembly the sirocco blades are below the filter air is sucked through the filter.
and here is the filter
after you're done cleaning and drying it putting it back together is easy just remember up goes up and the groves on the sides go towards the sides of the compartment as you slide it gently into the slot.
the filter provided is barely basic but better then filters in other cars i have seen which are very very delicate. If you would like to use carbon strips(filtretes) like mine you just have to cut out a strip which will cover only 30-40% of the filter or else airflow will decrease. just paste these on the side marked up.
time taken to do this job say 15 minutes. benefits better airflow and a clean filter.
another things to do to prevent that musty smell you get from the ac is once a week or whenever the ac will not be used for 2-3 days, just keep the ac on blower mode only but not cooling. this will dry up the coil and prevent the odor.
few tips on our air con.
for auto climate controls only
if you choose heat mode(selecting a temperature higher than ambient outside temperature) then do turn of the compressor by pressing the a/c button as the compressor still runs even during heat mode.
when you select a temperature say 23c or nearer to the outside temperature hot and cold air is mixed to maintain the temperature.
i noticed that the compressor never cuts of irrespective of temperature in cabin it just mixes hot and cold air to maintain the temperature.
if you find a decrease in air flow/ the fat line which leads to the compressor covered in ice, the air filter is clogged or you are low on gas, or there is an issue with the blower.(most ac systems cut of the compressor if icing is detected to prevent damage)
If the ac is blowing warm air and compressor is switching on and functioning and the fat line is warm, then the condenser unit which is in front of the radiator is clogged with dirt, using a water hose you can gently spray water on it to clear of the dirt. although you won't be able to clean it fully if its clogged its better to take it to the service center or ac specialist. as there can be other issues which can be found by checking pressures
yes if the gas is low on your system. please always evacuate the gas and find any leaks as the gas never gets low unless theres a leak. and make sure the guy adds in gas by weight and not pressure.
i guess i have covered up the air conditioner
