on the 11th of this month Atom had his first longest ride after his cosmetic surgery.
Our group as part of the monthly ride had planned a ride from Mangalore to Sakleshpur it was supposed to be a 130 kms ride one way.
was eagerly waiting for the ride. however due to some legal issues of our property in a distant place from mangalore which is exactly 220 kms from Mangalore , i had to go through some legalities of paper work of one of the properties we own. so had to be there on the 10th so that we could meet a person who could help solve the issue. however the work wasn't over by 10th and i had to stay over till Monday which means i was going to miss my ride.
Too much anxiety to attend the ride i couldn't sleep. decided that i need to make it to the ride and kept an alarm to wake up at 3:00 in the morning so that i could reach by 7 - 7:30 to mangalore finish my ride and come back soon. with this plan in mind slept off. The Goof up.
when i set the alarm i never checked the day it was supposed to wake me. it said M T W Th F S, which means Sunday wasn't included and 11th was a Sunday.
however had dreams of riding and finally woke up to find out that it was 5:00 in the morning and i had to make 200 kms odd ride in 3 hours straight. which wasn't possible. so what next
Called up the Group Captain and informed him about the situation and he inturn replied saying all will be waiting for me till i reach and then start the ride. I so love this Group they never leave any of us behind. Getting ready.
had woke up 2 hours late. so freshened up as quickly as possible took bath and got ready all this in 15 mins flat.
took out the bike started the bike in one kick Atom is ready to roll. time is 5:30 started the Journey and reached Mangalore by 9:00
All the members those who were going for the ride had assembled and were waiting for me. as soon as i parked my bike everyone started screaming as it was first time most of them saw ATOM in a new Avatar. I felt really happy.
The ride starts. we were supposed to take the route Mangalore --- Uppinangady----- Gundya---- Sakleshpur which is 130 kms drive from mangalore.
but for some strange reasons the captain of the group decides we take the bisle ghat route which is a trecherous terrain with no roads as in broken tarmac for atleast 50 kms. we take the bisle ghat diversion and make our way through Bisle Ghat.
The ride turns out Adventurous as most of it is off roading. Every body Starts having butt sores and back aches and what not. but me and my Atom are enjoying the ride, no butt sores no back aches for me.
we make to sakleshpur finally it takes us a cool 5 hours to reach sakleshpur. we have food in a local hotel and believe me the food was AWESOME. just plain rice some home made sambar and Happalam and pickle nothing so rich but definitely rich in taste. so we have a sumptuous Lunch and start our journey back to Mangalore.
on our way back we encounter heavy rains so everybody get into their rain gears and starts riding slowly through the Ghat section. we reach uppinangady late at around 7 have some tea and start our journey to mlore.By the time we reach Mangalore its around 8:30 at night.
i still have 220 kms to cover to get back to finish my work the very next day which i had left incomplete.
all the group members have dinner together and all of them say farewells and leave. time is 10:15
i decide to ride back the same day however a group member suggests that i take some rest at his place and start early. as it has been a tiring day , I agree it was indeed a tiring day as i had covered almost 550 kms by then. the ride route turend out be 334 kms plus the 220 kms i drove to get to mlore. I agree and we head towards his place and by the time we reach his place its 11:00 i need to be back by 9:30 which means i need to start by morning 3:00 or 4:00 so i sleep for 3 hours get up at 3:00 start my journey for the 220 kms left and finally finish my following day work successfully. so within a span of 24 hours i have completed close to 800 kms on ATOM. it was bone cracking journey for me to have ridden without much rest.
All Said and done these 24 hours of my life has been memorable. the morning mist the sun rising and spreading its light all across. The indian Highways which are a mix match of good as well as worse road conditions. puts any rider through some tests.
