Friends, haven't really updated my ownership report post the initial impressions. Thought that I should update it now:
LUV is now 2 years old and crossed 23k on odo. She did not churn the miles as I expected while purchasing, still happy with whatever small journeys I made except regular office commute.
Ertiga loves highways where it can cruise easily at 100-120 throughout a day if required. However due to turbo lag that comes with 1.3 MJD, its real pain to drive in bumper to bumper traffic. Though I have managed to negate it through downshifting or keeping it in turbo zone, this is never a fun!
But then this was a known factor even while purchasing the LUV back in 2013, and I always wanted to tune the engine post 10k run to reduce the turbo lag.
I did some research again in engine tuning and finally settled for the idea of Tunning Box as planned earlier. Shortlisted Petes & Race Dynamics boxes and went through respective pros & cons for them. Checked with forum members (TAI
& Others) for their experience and zeroed down to Race Dynamic's DieselTronic box. Reasons
1. Cost was 26k in comparson to 32k of Pete's
2. RD Box comes with Remote with 4 different maps which can be switched at any time
3. RD box (Dual channel one) controls both fuel & air pressure leading to better tunning & performance. RD Box Experience:
It has 4 different settings:
S: Stock Mode- Name suggests it all
E: Ecomonmy Mode-who cares
P1: RD claims 20-30 % increase in Power & Torque
P2: RD claims 30-40 % increase in Power & Torque
RD also claims improvements mileage by 10-20 %
I normally drive in P1 mode and I found it very handy to my driving style. There's enough torque @ 1500 RPM even in 2nd & 3rd gear, which has helped to drive in bumper to bumper traffic. LUV glides through speed breakers in 2nd & 3rd gears easily and there's no engine shuddering.
Post 2000 RPM, I have not seen any significant power gain and the motor feels like stock. Anyway 1.3 MJD has strong performance post 2k RPM, thus I am not complaining.
Driving LUV in hilly areas with stock engine is a pain as 90 HP is really not sufficient and the turbo lag & FWD transmission adds the woes. Agree that it can be managed but its more of a driving skills than the motor itself.
With this RD Box, things have improved and I can manage the drives in hilly regions albeit with less pain.
Since this is MSIL product, the maintenance costs are in check and so is the excellent ASS
So, am I happy with the LUV? A Big 'YES'
This was a short update and I shall share more details shortly.
