Dyret..! Report at 66000km and 14 Months.
It really feels like a dream till date…. I need some more time to digest the fact that yes I do drive the Tata Safari… I still have my heart swelling with pride the moment I have a glance at it everytime. and man I have to tell you the glances and comments I receive at my workplace are like cherry on the top. :P I had a wonderful time cruising through those thousands of kms especially of the South Indian roads. The vehicle never let me down any time and always was at its best covering 18000km in this duration.
Did few trips and the longest being Paradip -> Chilka-> Vizag -> Vijayawada -> Hyd (1350km) in 22 hours with short breaks in between and the drive was great. She is extremely sturdy and the drive was always pleasurable.
Further, the trips covered from the last update are as follows:
(a) Lonavala -> Alibaug -> Lonavala (200 km)
(b) Lonavala -> Hyderabad (650 km)
(c) Hyderabad -> Suryalanka -> Hyderabad (950km)
(d) Hyderabad -> Yadgirigutta -> Hyderabad (180km)
(e) Hyderabad -> Bidar -> Hyderabad (400km)
(f) Hyderabad -> Vizag -> Paradip (1260km)
(g) Paradip -> Bhubaneshwar -> Paradip (280km) x 8
(h) Paradip -> Chilka-> Vizag -> Vijayawada -> Hyd (1350km)
(i) Hyd -> Horsley Hills -> Hyd (1163km)
(k) Hyd -> Vizag -> Paradip (1275 km)
Additionally during this time I bought new shoes for her..! MRF WANDERER A/T 235/70 R16. The handling has improved massively. Potholes are just like tiny tiny. Hahaha .Just loving the drives. No squealing and squeaking around the corners at decent speeds. Before I felt the car was running on musical instrument rather than tyres.!:P Braking is just superb now. I never thought changing tyres would has so much of a change. Just loving every bit of driving.
It costed 27500 for 4 tyres including Alignment and Balancing(including weights on all 5 tyres). He even filled up all tyres with Nitrogen for free.! I used up the best tyre from the previous set of older Bridgestone Duelers as a spare.
Well I did a little market survey around Pimpri and Lonavala and found this rate was more or less the same. Freebees were not a part of the deal in other places. So went ahead with an Authorised MRF dealer in Pimpri. Maintenance/ Service Service 01: 55500 km and 5 months post purchase KM run after purchase
Got her serviced on 22 Jun 14 as it would be doing a long trip in near future (Lonavala to Hyd) and she almost clocked 7500 km after the last service. Initially she was serviced by her previous owner and I am not sure what all he had got done. So was keen to get it serviced before I hit the road as I want dint wanted to take risks with my parents with me for the first long trip we would be doing. Tried getting an appointment with Concorde TASS, Pune about 4 days prior to that date but couldn’t get one. So finally decided to try with Carnation, Wakad (Pune). Took an appointment for the same day and drove in. I made sure I was present near her during the work was getting done. The following things were done:
(a) Engine oil change
(b) Oil filter change
(c) Coolant replacement (old coolant flushed)
(d) Air filter change
(e) New Wiper blades (front-02, rear-01)
(f) Battery water top up
(g) Brake pads cleaning
(h) Oiling and greasing
(j) Interior vacuum, External Shampoo wash Total service cost
: INR 6500/-
Additionally I got the headlight bulbs replaced from stock 55/60 to 90/100 philips premium vision (He dint had extreme vision,
) with relay kit and ceramic holders.
Got an external cover for her- Rs 2000/-
Could finish with the service on the same evening before hitting the expressway back to Lonavala. There was change in the way I could feel her in my hands now and yes I was grinning asusual. Service 02: 62900 km and 13 months post purchase
Post purchase I dint get a major overhaul/service and she clocked almost 14000 and there were few issues which I wanted to sort at the earliest. I was in the state of Odisha and explored 03 service centres around Bhubaneshwar for the service. But finally had a chance to go back to home town ( Hyderabad) so was very happy so that I can get the vehicle serviced in Hyd.
Thanks to my dear friends Vinay, Vicky aka the Carbonado, Rajiv who advised me to head straight to Tejaswi motors (Tata Authorised Service Station, Hyd) as they know a Service Head – Mr Rahim who is a pro in Safaris. So decided zeroed that service centre and personally went to explain the problems on 04 Mar 15.
Problems which needed immediate attention:
(a) Vibrations between 55 kmph – 75 kmph
(b) Hard clutch
(c) Fuel Filter change
(d) Suspension (feels hard with minimum suspension effect) Hard Clutch
The clutch was very hard right and a complete overhaul was required. Cost 12000/-. This included clutch disc assembly, clutch cover assembly and clutch release bearing
Vibrations between 55 kmph – 75 kmph
Moderate to heavy vibrations were felt with the steering wheel in a specific speed band (55-70 kmph). The connecting rod, centre link assembly, tie rods and tie rod ends were damaged and were replaced. Various bushes like the rubber bush top link, bottom link etc and various other bearings. Suspension
Front and Rear suspension overhaul was undertaken.
Apart from these there were many other things which were undertaken with almost a complete check up of the vehicle. I dint wanted to leave any work left undone. The vehicle was stationed in the service centre for 13 days. Got the interiors cleaned and an external wax applied. This costed INR 2000.
Total cost of the service : INR 43,508/-
The feel of the vehicle completely changed. The clutch was now butter smooth. The cabin noise reduced drastically. The engine felt smoother. Overall it was a wonderful feeling. The grin remained on my face.
Now she is at 66,300km and 14 months old and I keep falling for her again and again. Neither has she stopped to sweep me off my feet again and again.
