Hello Everyone,
I am newbie for 4 wheeler, and have been driving Maruti 800. My friend have left it with me while going onsite. I would be sharing details about the Car, its condition and our recent trip to Pune-Shirdi.
About the Car:
Well, this is a gem of car in its own terms. Since 1984, from when Maruti 800 were introduced in india till now; I can see numerous M800 on road with pride owners. Our car is Type 2, 2000 model purchased in Feb 2000. My friend has maintained it very nicely. He had left this car with a known person for 4 months and that person literally abused this car. Then he taken it back and handed over to me.

When I received the car, I got below work done:

Left Front Axle replacement,
Rear Pata ,
Clutch assembly change (Clutch plate, pressure plate, cable, bearing)
Carburattor overhaul,
Radiator cleaning,
Brake pad inspection and cleaning,
Regular Servicing,
Silencer pipe welding
Total cost - 11000
4 new radial Tyres (Apollo Amazer XL 145/70) - cost 8600 (2150*4)

Ok, So now the M800 is ready to go. The mechanic has done superb job/setting.

Trip to Shirdi/Nashik

Once the car was ready, me and my friend had thought to go for a long trip to check its performance, general vehicle status, mileage etc. So, we choose Shirdi trip over weekend.
By Thursday night, Me and Abhishek (my friend) had finalized the trip.
I was not feeling well on 22nd Friday and taken day off from office. Still I had to manage few early checks for vehicle and arrange some general stuffs.

22nd Nov Got the wheel balancing done, car checked by Mechanic once more. Put in 20 liter fuel
Didn’t do a full tank. Total fuel in car was around 24 liters in total.
23rd Nov woke up at 5 AM and we got ready.
4 Adults + 1 kid, lots of luggage; We started at 7.10 AM from Hadapsar.
7.10 AM Tripmeter reading - 20115 Kms
Car was running good. Touched 80 Kmph in no time. We bypassed Wagholi and Tollnaka.
08.05 AM Reached toll naka – paid 37 rs (tripmeter 20144 Kms)
08.45 AM Reached Ranjangaon Ganpati (tripmeter 20173 Kms)
Had darshan, Stayed there for 30 min. Started aroud 09.20
11:00 AM Reached Ahmednagar (tripmeter 20245 Kms)
Took a 10 min break as my Daughter was not feeling good (vomiting).
11:20 AM Ahmednagar Toll 30 rs (tripmeter 20258 Kms)
Moved on To Aurangabad Highway
12:00 PM Reached Sri Sani Singnapur (tripmeter 20284 Kms)
Had darshan in 25 min.
12:25 PM Started onward journey to Shridi

1:05 PM - Took 30 min break on road, as my Daughter had spotted a holy COW (Pics will be shared later). (tripmeter 20294 Kms)

3:00 PM - Reahced Shirdi. Parked M800 in a private hotel, paid 50 rs.
Bought Prasad, eneterd through gate #2 around 3.30 PM. Had darshan by 5:00 PM.
5:00 Pm – took a break, had Dosa and chai. Done full tank at IOC (tripmeter 20365 Kms)
Petrol bill – Rs 1592 – 20.65 Litres.

6:00 PM- started for Pimpal Gaon for night stay (My Brother-in-law stays there).
We missed the Nashik turn, proceeded to Kopergaon road. Damn, it was totally broken 8- 10 km stretch. Asked a local for route to Nashik/ pimplegaon. He suggested to go till Yeola, and take left turn to Nashik.

6.45 PM Yeole Toll naka –Paid 29 rs-(tripmeter 20385 Kms)
The road was pretty good; but M800 headlights was not good one. The beam was lowered than usual, focus was weak and Windshield also was playing game. Not very clear visibility somehow. We decided to keep our cutie M800 behind some vehicle. At Niphad, we got a sudden info for taking short cut to Pimplegaon. We took right turn from Niphad, bypassing Nashik. Crossed a railway signal and reached there around 8.30 PM.
(tripmeter 20456 Kms)

Tooak a night halt at Pimplegaon. We Decided to start next day at leisure around 9 AM for Triambakeshwar.

Sunday 24th Nov
9.20 AM Started from Pimpalgaon paid toll of rs 40

11:00 AM Reached Triambakeshwar (tripmeter 20517 Kms)
Had darshan and left from temple premises around 01.20

2.15 PM Reached Nashik (Dwarka Gate) (tripmeter 20548 Kms)
Took Nashik – Pune route.
2.45 PM Lunch stop at hotel Vrindavan - (tripmeter 20563 Kms)
Hotel was good, staff was courteous , food was fresh + delicious.
We had nachni peeth papad, Methi- lasuni (too good), butter Paneer & Butter milk at the end. Bill was Rs 407 

3.45 PM Started onward journey.

Took Sinnar- narayangaon-Chakn-Pune route (Biggest mistake ever [frustration] ). Too much traffic on 2 lane road. We were not able to maintan even 50 kmph average speed. We shoud have taken Sinnar-shirdi-Ahmednagar –Pune route.

Took 2 tea-break enroute + 1 Wada-pav break as my daughter was feeling hungry.

10.00 PM – Reached home Pune (tripmeter 20775 Kms). Fuel left aprox- 4 litres.
Total Cost – Fuel bill – 3300
Food bill -720
Toll+ Parking - 300

Road Condition -
Pune-Wagholi-Ranjangaon -- Good road, nice 4 lane highway with divider. Can encounter speeding morons. Keep an eye on intruders( 2 wheelers ) near Wagholi region.
Ranjan Gaon - Ahmednagar - Nice road.
Ahmednagar - ShriSani Singnapur - - Good one again.Roads closer to Shani singnapur is little bad. The village road is also bad in singnapur.

Singnapur- Shirdi - not good one, unexpected and deep Potholes.
Shirdi-Yeola literally no road for 10 km. After then its good one.
yeola-Niphad - State highway, nicely maintained with sudden speed breakers in between causing us to slow down.
Niphad-Pimplegaon commutable road.
Pimplegaon-Nashik - Butter smooth patch of 30 kms.
Nashik-Triambak-Nashik - Road construction going on, so there would be single lane at many places.
Nashik-Narayangaon-Chakan-Pune - 2 lane road with lots of traffic. Single bad decision of this trip. not advisable.
This is nut-shell whole trip about. Will post pics in some time.
Now, I have few questions, need advice/answers :
PS- This is my friend’s Car and I will be care taker for another year at least.
He have already spent over 17 K + my 3k on new tyres + parts. He was in a mood to sell this car, but on my insistence, got ready to keep it and maintain.

1> What is fuel tank capacity of M800 type2 (28 litres as per google).
2> After full tank some petrol leaked to floor. Attended said it happens for full tank filling. Is It true?
3> We had full load of 4 adults + 1 kid (300+ Kg) & luggage must be around some 75 kgs.
Used to cross 80 kmph easily, but after then Car body starts giving vibrations. Around 90 kmph, it was more. Only ahmednagar-aurangabad stretch, we managed to reach 108 kmph with little vibrations as road was pretty good.
What is comfortable speed for M800 on such 4 lanes ( 80/ 90 /100 -- ?)
4> We weren’t feeling comfortable in night driving.
Reason - not strong headlamp focus, lower Beam, weak break, glaring light from incoming vehicles. – What we can do in minimum expense here ? What are my options ?

5> We got average of around 16.5 kmpl in total trip. Is it good one ?

Thanks,
Bimlendra

1. not sure about that,. my 800 5 speed 2003 make had 24 litres fuel tank capacity. never did a tank full.
2. it's not true. if the leak is from under body near fuel tank, get the tank checked for leaks and rust,
3. m800 has vibrations. but if it's the steering, time to check the joints and steering arm. u shouldn't exceed for 80,90 for better mileage and also for safety reasons.
4. headlamp issue: 800 is a low slung car. the head glare from other vehicles will affect it. poor lighting check whether the reflectors are smoked out. u can upgrade to 90/100 head lamps. osram night breaker is good. try adjusting the head lamp position manually. park the car in front of a wall. try adjusting the postion for low beam and high beam. a mechanic can help you with this.
5. brakes do u have spongy feel? if then check the mass cylinder kit for air. bleed air from the breaking line.
6. 16.5 is good considering the load on the car( 5 members). but anyway if u drive around 70 to 80.u will get close to 20

Thanks Pravin for prompt Reply,

Will get tank checked for leakage n Rust. Brakes are ok but cruising at the speed of 80-90 and applying M800 break will take some sweet time to respond. So, I thought to better to keep it in 70-80 region.

Regarding your questions
1> What is fuel tank capacity of M800 type2 (28 litres as per google).
Yes Its 28 litres as per google and car manual
2> After full tank some petrol leaked to floor. Attended said it happens for full tank filling. Is It true?
No, It does not happen on full tank filling. Maybe some petrol from the petrol filling hose have dropped on the floor or there may be some leaks in the fuel line. Get it checked
3> We had full load of 4 adults + 1 kid (300+ Kg) & luggage must be around some 75 kgs.
Used to cross 80 kmph easily, but after then Car body starts giving vibrations.
I have driven with 6 adults and two kids and little luggage. The vibrations may be due to problem in steering system or problem in tyre alignment and balancing. Did you feel any loss in power with the vibrations.
What is comfortable speed for M800 on such 4 lanes ( 80/ 90 /100 -- ?)
Try not to cross 90
4> We weren’t feeling comfortable in night driving.

To improve visibility, check the windshield glass, if it has too much scratches and star like formation are seen in night then replace the windshield.
To improve the headlamps get osram nightbreaker installed or upgrade to 100/90 bulbs. Also you can add auxillary lamps if you do frequent night trips.

Regarding the brakes, get the brake system thoroughly checked or install brake boosters for better results
