Tires were changed on 29.12.2013.
I was observing oil leak on my garage floor for a few days so took her to a local service station. After inspecting, the mechanic told me that gear oil is leaking slightly from the gear box drain point and from RHS Drive shaft and the oil seal of the same is required to be changed.
After opening the drive shaft, they showed me that the CV joint inside the shaft is broken and I need to replace the whole shaft(MGP Rs.2900/-). I asked them to carry on and they changed the shaft and the oil seal including the o-ring of the oil drain plug. Total service cost was around Rs.4000/-.
Last to last week while travelling to my home town Digboi, some wired noise was heard while accelerating(only during accelerating in all gears). I pulled up to the road side and found nothing wrong with the engine part(I ignored something which I will tell later).
I also throttled from the carburetor but that sound was not there(but was present while throttling in gear).
Anyways I continued my Journey. After travelling about 10-15kms, the car stalled. I pulled up the hood to see white smoke coming from the engine. Since there was no servicing garage nearby, I waited for the engine to cool down. Meanwhile I called up Dad to ask for help as Home was around 20kms from the spot. He told he will try to bring a mechanic along. After 15-20mins, I tried cranking and she started. I thanked God and started my journey with speeds not exceeding 50kmph.
Just while entering the town, she stalled again. This time I did a thorough check and found the coolant reservoir to be empty
. Luckily the car stalled just in front of my in-laws so I dropped my wife there and again waited for the engine to cool down as a garage was just a km away and I didn't knew from where the coolant was leaking. Upto the morning there was no sign of leakage.
Again after 15mins, took off to the garage and the mechanic opened the radiator cap and poured water into it. Lot of vapour came out and the leak was identified to a cracked rubber hose at the back side near the bottom of the engine.
Changed the hose and filled fresh coolant with distilled water. Bill came for Rs.500/- and off I went. After reaching Home, I noticed strong petrol odour and pulled up the hood to check. Found the fuel supply hose to the carb was cracked.
I guess the Car is showing signs of old age. Kept in mind to change all the hoses and electrical wires in the near future. Then I used brown tape to cover the hose and went to a garage about 200m from my Home. They too didn't had a spare one so they cut the cracked part and fitted the hose for Rs.30/- and came back Home.
Will change all the rubber hoses first when I get time. electricals seems ok for now but is it advisable to change them as the Car is nearing the sweet Sixteen age soon?
Also there is a crack on the radiator which was developed long ago but application of M-Seal hold it for long. The present condition of the radiator is as in the pic below and it has not given any probs so far(Touchwood). Is it advisable to change the radiator?
