I was under assumption when the work is done by authorized dealer the warranty will be respected. As such bought a new pair of horns from outside shop to replace the existing one. The horns package was missing relay component but decided to buy it any way thinking workshop guys will have spare one possibly hyundai made(later got to know that relay comes inbuilt in the car wiring). The shop owner offered to install the horn for extra 100Rs,informed him that I had not brought the car and left with horns but no relay. During the first service got the horn replaced(300 Rs). The service personnel took my signature on service slip indicating horn replacement . My father paid the bill amount and got the car later after customary wash.
I decided to get the relay from shop owner as it might useful during later point of time. The shop owner inquired where I got the work done. Informed him that it was hyundai workshop. Then he revealed some gyaan , the workshop personnel will also splice the wire and take signature for it. The signature indicates that it was requested by owner. Then warranty will be voided.
Went back home and peered into the bonnet , saw that wires had been spliced
and final bill mentioned wiring harness repair!(err what is that?). I was totally dumbstruck
, did I sign the work sheet blindly trusting the advisor? Yes. Hyundai terms says any parts replacement /splicing voids the warranty. I believe this holds good even if the work is done by the dealer. Lesson learnt, dont trust dealer blindly. Be there when work is done and make sure they do it right way.
