HELLíS ANGEL Ė Suzuki Zen Estilo LXi Ė March 2007
DOD: April 5, 2007.
Color Midnight Black. THE DECISION:
To start with the car is actually owned by my cousin sister, and driven and maintained by Devil INC [thatís myself :P].
Things started when auto charges paid by her was too high that her mom couldnít agree with which eventually led to fight :D. Then came the decision to buy a car, but no one including me know to drive. Then came the question ďWhich car?Ē I suggested buy a second hand 5-speed 800 and learn driving [for her, her sister, me and my brother: too much a brand new car can handle :D]. She said no 800. Then I said go for a Zen. She said no second hands. Being a senior call center employee, it was status issue for her and some ego problem with her ______ ;).
Then okay we can go for a brand new car. Asked her to weight for Spark [which was not out at that time]. She said no. She started seeing Purple Estilo on road [:O Purple, dunno why ladies are behind that]. She liked it and she said she will go for Estilo, didnít tell me the color.
It was her decision and I said fine, letís go for it.
She started learning driving and without a valid license went to the showroom and took test drive on a to-be-delivered Estilo VXi. Salesman tried to convince her to buy Estilo VXi or Swift LXi. They good guy accompanied her during the test drive said most of the things VXi like electric mirror and rear power window are unnecessary [He may be experienced with lady drivers spoiling the car thrashing and bashing, thanks to that guy, else I would have spent x1ks replacing the mirror assemblies which she likes banging behind pedestrians and autos]. She noticed the price difference with VXi and what she wanted were power steering, AC and the ugly pink color.
Test drive stopped half way after he understood she doesnít know driving and he had to get the car back safe.
Back at showroom, time for booking. Paid the booking amount, now confused which color Ė blue or pink [after seeing that dirty blue one in showroom]. She called up. I said red or black. Nothing else. She said red is like candy, Yuk! [what else is purple :D??]
Decided black. Booked Black LXi and loan was approved the same day as she had FD at the neighborhood bank.
Next day we went to book accessories. Sony head unit, ovals and door speaker, window tint, side beading, steering cover, cigarette lamp, original wheel cap. Gave bill. Shocked. 28k. Said we will pay the next day. Went home. Recovered the shock. Canceled the order. Asked only to fit side beading, window tint, wheel caps and cigarette lamp [600 bucks for the same 80 buck wala item], fog lamps. Original looks Killer looks
The Hell's Angel D-DAY:
Everybody excited. She said she will drive home after delivery through the busy traffic via Ganapathy temple in city center [:O], no license yet and she already failed in L-test.
We left in another friendís Zen and an auto.
Reached there car was waiting outside to be delivered. We were invited inside, got a cup of lime juice and a box of candy.
Checked the car, and the first fight with dealer starts there :D. Where is the tint and cigarette lamp?? Who asked you to put ugly number plates?? Where is the OEM
wheel cap we paid for?? They fixed the cheap one with bolt in the center, three spoke one. We paid 1600 bucks for that. The guy in charge of our car came and apologized. Took the car to garage, changed the wheel caps and returned. And said, cigarette lamp is out of stock sir, will fit them at first service. Since madam is learning driving it is better to tint after she finish learning :X. She was convinced, but I was not. Didnít want to spoil the day. So accepted all the excuse. Took the key from the guy, paid him 100 bucks dakshina [which I didnít like :D]. Took a group photo in front of the car. She took the key and ready to start off. She and family in. Turned key and slipped clutch, lemon under wheels where flying and car took off stalling on the middle of the road perpendicular to the divider, missing the traffic :D. Uncle started giving instructions and she started properly. We chased in the other Zen. It was office hour and she was stalling the car every now and then. Uncle fed up and took over the car at the filling station. [We got 10 liter petrol free from dealer other than the crap steering cover].
We reached home first [that too after making a credit card payment and purchase at Spencers] and they were late by nearly an hour.
Dropped everyone. Car parked. Started my favorite thing. Tore off all the plastic cover over seat. Inspected the car upside down. Tried all the gizmos [power windows and central locking in this case :D, first car in our generation]. Went through the ownerís manual. Tried learning Security system codes [eventually failed]. Tried making her understand how to care the car. OUR FIRST SPIN:
With my friend co-piloting and cousin driving, we started off. She was trying to speed with the car. Crossed the first intersection without caring about the traffic missing a bikeís tail end. After intersection banged the mirror behind a fish seller. He stared and we pushed off.
She stalled on one of the steepest road in the locality. He explained how to hold on clutch and all. She shook head. Pulled hand brakes, put neutral, started, first gear, half clutch, a bit of gas, off the hand brake, and it stalled again. Tried again and again. At last he said hold on clutch, rev a bit, then release. And what happened next was, she held on clutch, revved very high, but didnít release clutch. Thick black smoke came and it was smelling burning clutch. It was the first day of the car and still in crucial running in period. SECOND DAY AND THE MODDING STARTS:
Off the ugly metal plates and put on the in-house made plastic plates. That was the first mod. Then Prostreet sticker in front bumper and Hellís Angel in back glass. HORRIBLE DAYS AS CO-DRIVER:
I was accompanying her when learning driving. It took 4 attempts for her to pass the driving test. I could see front end just missing people and bikes. She always kept the windows up and my side was down. So everybody out were calling my maabaap :D FIGHT WITH DEALER STARTS FULL THROTTLE
Time for first service. Where is our tint and cigarette lamp???? Tinter is ill sir and cigarette lamp still not in stock. Gearbox was terrible and 5th gear refused to slot in on the run [Will tell gearbox story]. [It took license in between, never smoked the car nor stalled once :D]. Asked for repayment of the amount, they said once paid canít be returned. Will adjust with something else [They charged 500 extra for metal plates during delivery]. We opted for window visors and had to pay extra after them saying we paid only for cigarette lamp and the guy dealt with us quit the job :X. Service over and visor delayed, same out of stock reason. We paid for VXiís fog lamp and they fixed some local cheap set, which rusted out within a year. OFFICIAL MODS STARTS
After the uncertainty about the tinting over, we decided to tint at the biggest car accessory shop here, The Car Palace. Showed various items costing cheap as 400 bucks to nice 3000 buck ones. Opted for Charcoal Black, for 1200 bucks. Insisted to stick the rear one in single piece instead of 2 or three pieces. Fixed steering cover to match the interiors. Car was still without stereo. Our first highway run over and the faint OEM
peepee turned useless. So decided to fit something powerful. Opted Roots Windtone, charged 850 bucks including service charge and relay. Updates: October 2012: Clutch, steering and suspension jobs works done @48.5k km December 2012: New battery (3rd) and new pedal covers Crosses 50k km ICE setup + misc addon snaps.
