Toyota Innova Touring Sport Review Synopsis:
  • Toyota Innova Touring Sport price tag is between Rs.17.63 Lacs – Rs.22.14 Lacs (Ex.Showroom, Delhi).
  • Touring Sport version launched in India on 4th May 2017. It comes with choice of both, Petrol and Diesel.
  • Toyota claims that this edition is aimed at those who seek comfort and feel of an MPV and style of SUV.
  • The engine options are same as earlier with no enhancements: 2.4L and 2.8L Diesel and 2.7L Petrol motor.
  • Major distinguishing factors include Wildfire Red shade, exterior body kits, red-color interior leather stitching etc.

Toyota Innova Touring Sport: Introduction
If there’s an MPV in India that has stood test of the time, it’s indisputably the Toyota Innova. It has witnessed numerous upgrades and undergone various market conditions, yet it continues to sell like hot cakes till date. To celebrate the success of its all-new avatar in form of Crysta which was launched last year, the Japanese automaker rolled out special edition Touring Sport. The Innova Touring Sport is an MPV with SUV’ish outfit. That’s exactly what Toyota intended it to be. There are no modifications under the hood, but on the outside, Touring Sport is bound to make heads turn. Thanks to all-new Wildfire Red color coupled along with macho body kits with ample chrome. In addition, smoked headlamps and matte-black alloys complement its stunning character. On the inside, differences are much subtler. It includes all-black upholstery with red-stitching, red-illuminated instrument cluster etc. Interestingly, Toyota sells this version of Innova in Indonesia as separate model called Venturer. From driving perspective, it’s similar to Crysta. However, we must add that our Touring Sport (Diesel AT) test car delivered surprisingly low mileage hovering between 5 – 7 Kpl with full load, air-con on during highway drive. With a premium of about Rs.1.5 Lakh over Innova Crysta (which is already overpriced), Touring Sport is a no budget-friendly car. Lack of performance upgrades at this pricepoint makes it even more unappealing to enthusiasts who're usually willing to shell out that much premium. Therefore, if little exclusivity is all you seek and have abundant cash lying around, then Innova Touring Sport is the appropriate choice.

  • Sporty aesthetics and new red color make it a head-turner.
  • Premium quality interiors are very spacious and comfortable.
  • Powerful and reliable engines. Particularly 2.8L Diesel & 2.7L Petrol.
  • Good all-around visibility, proportions and a nimble steering wheel.
  • Excellent sales and after-sales service network of Toyota in India.

You'll Loathe: [thumbsdown]
  • Price. Innova is costly MPV at this price point.
  • Poorly-equipped GX trim. Skips even ICE option.
  • Prominent lag in the gearshifts is a huge let down.
  • Missing middle-row bench option in top-end ZX trim.
  • Poor fuel efficiency of automatic model. Expect single digits in city.

Toyota Innova Touring Sport: Pictorial Review
All-black grille with smoked chrome finish. Front also has what Toyota calls “bumper spoiler” with chrome ornaments.

Touring Sport has smoked headlamps which make it look sexier.

Turn indicators are situated next to Foglamps. Both are separate units.

Oodles of chrome usage on all sides. Personally not to my taste.

The ORVM is chrome plated too. It’s very long and practical for use.

Chrome (again!) exterior handle with nicely camouflaged request sensor.

Black alloys extremely gel well with the car. Tyre size is reduced to R16.

The well-insulated hood, although car is still noisy on the outside.

The manual diesel engine is 2393 CC while automatic diesel is 2755 CC.

Small shark-fin antenna isn’t really prominent on this large-size car.

The rear bumper is equipped with side rocker moulds. Spare wheel is tucked underneath.

The boot has black garnish in Touring Sport.

Altezza type high mounted stop lamp.

Kung-fu style taillamps remain untouched.

Puddle lamps are truly a very useful feature.

Toyota skipped chrome where it was actually required. Door sill guards are black and non-illuminated.

Front seats are highly supportive and bolstered. Upholstery is stitched red in Touring Sport.

Personally I prefer captain seats over bench-type. Note the seatbelt buckle is integrated in them.

The last row is 50:50 split. It’s best for children or medium size adults.

Nifty grab-handle to bring the boot down. Though auto-boot shut feature will be appreciated.

There are no major interior changes whatsoever. The dashboard gets red-wood pattern.

Observe the fine red stitching on steering too.

The red-illuminated instrument cluster is specific to Touring Sport.

A look at MID functions. BTW our test car delivered very poor fuel efficiency.

Engine start-stop button is conveniently positioned.

Remote key is well-designed and looks premium.

The door-pad is fabric and prone to getting soiled. We'd have preferred leather instead.

Parking sensors can be turned off if required.

Easy-to-access hood and fuel lid levers on dashboard.

Footrest is a boon on automatic. Pedals have appropriate spacing.

Both sunvisors have vanity mirrors and lamps.

Front rooflamp dome with sunglass holder. It also has button to control illumination level of ambience lighting.

The interiors are well-lit. Ambience lighting adds to the charm.

Third-row AC vents can fully shut.

Boot receives a dedicated lamp too.

Toyota Innova scores high on safety with total 7 airbags on offer.

Sufficient storage for last row occupants.

Amusingly all four front AC vents have a unique design.

Smart storage. These handy bins are offered on both sides of the dash.

Twin glovebox are adequately wide and deep.

Useful under armrest storage. It’s very deep as well.

Classy cupholders for second-row passengers can completely shut.

Music system is decent. Head unit supports audio, video, navigation and Eco mode information.

Reverse camera is immensely helpful and perhaps the only thing you'll rely on (apart from mirrors).

The wood finish is love-it or loathe-it. Personally speaking, I love it.

The auto-gearbox takes its own sweet time.

USB and Aux-in slot with gadget holder right behind front armrest. Just below it is a 12V socket.

Pull this lever to move forward the co-driver seat for additional legroom at rear.

Second row is spacious enough. You can actually come back or forth through space between the captain seats.

Very practical and useful storage trays for second row passengers.

Transmission tunnel hump is negligible.

Tumbling the second row is easy. Enough space for an average sized person to conveniently get inside.

Bootspace is abundant for well-packed luggage. Observe last row middle passenger headrest storage location.

The roof mounted air-con vents are backlit.

The third-row seatbelts intrude the headroom if you choose not to wear them (so better do :smile:).

Touring Sport is an interesting concept for those who prefer to make a style-statement with an MPV.

Pardon my ignorance but isnt touring sport , crysta with side cladding and red color?

interiors and exterior wise, its only the side cladding that make difference. So question is why come up with new nomenclature.

Innova and crysta looks are very evident so is what Aria and Hexa are. why do we have so many variants as if it is a different car all together? What kind of marketting strategy this is.

Touring sport looked weird in photos, but on road when moving it looks great.
