Finally got a chance to TD the 1.5 Diesel T(O), here are my observations.
Currently I am driving Swift Petrol so my comparison all based on my Swift.
Engine is peppy at first gear unlike Swift where you need to press the gas for more. There is absolutely no diesel engine sound, it was in par with my petrol. I am a sedate driver so I did not feel the turbo lag at all(or very minimal I would just ignore it as a issue) I think the engine is heavily turned for mileage so in all the gears engine felt bit under powered. I would assume people who drive sedate would get best mileage and much more than the ARIA quoted. On the other hand so called 'enthusiasts' will be disappointed w.r.t drive-ability and power IMO
. I am not saying the vehicle does not have power when you pump the gas, but you would not see the response as per your throttle feed, so people who need power at the tip of the gas pedal please TD and make sure you accept it. The steering feedback was good, though not like fiesta.
I drove the car in busy traffic and HW from 10 KM/H to 90 KM/H. At city crawling speeds it handled well. Speed bumps 2nd gear was able to pull through but felt the complete contours of the speed bump inside. Suspensions stiff but I liked it.
I have driven Duster 110 PS a lot so in comparing to that(not a right comparison), I felt Duster felt more powerful, but somehow I feel Duster to be bit too soft on the suspension. I kind of like the suspension of Ecosport. But I think again this is contributed by the 'sedate' drive factor. Because of the stiff suspension I felt Ecosport delivers precise feedback where as Duster absorbs the feedback. Also I am happy to note I was able to pull the car at 30 km/h at 4th gear with out any rumbles or vibrations from the engine.
Visibility, is fine from drivers position. Much higher than swift which felt good. A pillar blind spot is there but so is my Swift, almost the same size. Rear view mirror gave very confident view for me. Rear view mirror also covers the rear wind screen properly. Only thing one need to be careful while reversing as there are many blind area to take care.
Driver seating, really enjoyed the drive position as I did not have to bend my knees(as in Swift) Clutch pedal not hard for me. Steering wheel is small and very sporty, was bit concerned about the placement of the horn as it was reported earlier that one has to reach out which is a big annoyance. But for my surprise I was able to handle it with out any issue. I have medium sized palms. But tiny palms or ladies this could be a issue so please check it out for your liking, this could be one of the big annoyance if you can not reach the horn.
One thing I did not like is usability of the arm rest, while gear shifting the elbows interfere with the arm rest. If you keep your elbow on the arm rest then you need to reach down to change the gear. Probably you might be able to use the arm rest only on HW.
Since I test drove during night, the head lights seemed ok but not great!
I test drove the car with 2 adults and 2 kids in the back seat and 2 in the front wanted to see the response with worst possible setting.
So final result: PASSED! Now thinking about jumping my ship from Ecoboost to Diesel
