Its a beautiful day here in Delhi and I have just returned from the test drive of Ecosport.I have booked Ecoboost Titanium on 28th June but wasn't able to test drive earlier as there was only diesel available.Just like Dreamer
I have too become a fan of this engine. As mentioned in numerous reports start the engine and engine is smooth, and it doesn't feel like a 3 cylinder.I had test driven the polo a few weeks back and unlike it this engine doesn't have any vibrations.Put it in first gear and like a diesel, the car moves easily even without throttle input.Turbo lag is not pronounced, below 1800 rpm the car is fine and it doesn't feel like the engine is having problems carrying the massive weight.
We were three people in the car with AC on and there was absolutely no problems with the pickup or performance. Revv the engine past 2000 rpm and this is where the fun lye
,there is massive torque available which makes overtaking a breeze.I didn't revv the engine past 3000 rpm and was easily overtaking vehicles. The route for test drive included only small potholes and the car ate them with aplomb, coudln't find any big potholes to test the ride quality totally.I also got a chance to take the car into two feet of water and the car easily glided through. Finally drove it like I would drive this car normally i.e. changing gears between 1500-2500rpm and the mileage on MID was 10.9 kmpl, the AC was on all the time and this car had also idled for a few minutes. The torque after 2000 rpm is quite addictive which can lead to a decrease in the mileage
.All in all this what I have come to understand is this engine offers the best of both world,if you want good fuel efficiency just drive sedately and if power is what you want then sit back, floor the throttle and enjoy.
Honestly,I was a bit skeptical about the reliability and mileage of this engine but after the test drive I am just grinning
Some other points-
1-Using handbrake is difficult since the arm rest is quite obstructive, its a big ergonomic failure IMO
2-I found the clutch to be on the hard side.
3-The steering is nice to hold and all the controls are intelligently laid out.
4-The car is filled with gizmos which will be a main selling point in our country.
5-The sales guy was very cheerful and answered all my queries thoroughly, when enquired by my dad about the diesel recall he said that its a precautionary measure and explained about the whole module and why was it being changed.
6-The front seats were comfortable and finding a nice driving position was easy.
7-The back seat reclining feature is very useful which was made evident when my dad sat at the back.
8-Inbetween the test drive it started raining and the wipers did a great job, also the traction from tires was good.
9-This car is a looker,I had people stopping their car and checking this car out.Everywhere we went this car made heads turn.
10-Other cars on the road easily gave way to this intimidating beast, all that is required is a flashing of the headlights.
11-On enquiring about the delivery status, the SA mentioned that they have received approx 400-500 bookings and more than 90 percent were for diesel, mind you this is comparatively a small dealership. Also he said that the first lot is expected soon and there will be about 200 cars in it,but I will not get the car in first lot:(.Moreover according to him only a handful of people who know about the technicalities of Ecoboost are booking it.Considering the number of bookings, they can easily fulfil the demand in 3 months max. Another point, the first person to get the car delivered from this dealership had apparently booked in June 2012!
and lastly the coffee at the dealership was great, just the way I like it.:D
Attaching accessories price list and few pictures(excuse the low quality, they were taken from my humble BB)-
