Shared my TD with another group of ppl who were using safaris from 1998.
We tested in-gear acceleration, directional stability, braking & suspension setup over 50 kms ranging from very good roads to roadless.
My main lookout during the TD was to know whats on offer for me to upgrade from my TCIC. Wasnt looking to criticize the Storme or Tata.
Power is awesome. Never noticed 60-140. One minute at 60 the next at 140. It felt seriously crazy. But 140-160 was noticeable.
We slammed the brake at 160. Wow!!! Stopped in a straight line. No fuss whatsoever. It felt like stopping from much lower speeds. But the back seats did close under heavy braking. Tata revamped so much in the car. Cant understand why they couldnt design a better locking mechanism.
There was negligible body roll during high speed lane changes. Its a breeze driving the Storme. For ppl used to the old Safaris, this might even feel sedan like at times. Atleast it did to me.
Braking during fast corners didnt unsettle the Storme. Wind noise is minimum.
We took it to a place with no roads. Whatever we drove over, it kept going straight which felt great. We bashed it real good but it took the punishment without even a groan. The lowered wheel articulation caused a few thuds more than what would have happened in the older versions.
The ride's gotten firmer now. You could surely feel the road most of the time. The firmer ride definitely has added benefits to the handling. Stock bridgestone's felt a little harsh over bad patches. Guess softer tyres would reduce this. Cant say for sure unless I do an extended TD.
Turbo lag's definitely there. Especially in 3rd gear. Bcos of the lowered seat you desperately need more space for your left foot. In the older one its easy to just pull back your foot. Here its not convenient & there's hardly any space at the side of the footwell.
The other group owns an audi q7, couple of XUVs & a few safaris. They were simply ecstatic abt this car. They booked it on the spot. Their excitement really spoke volumes abt how Storme has evolved. I'm not gonna post their comments though.
Guys the Storme needs to be experienced. Not discussed.
Media 'guru's can criticize the car from top to bottom. But for the rest of us commoners, Storme's just 'wheeee!!!! whooooo!!!!' IMHO.
Few details I got from the sales rep which I have'nt seen before:
1. 43 bookings done at Concorde Bangalore. And more than 30 were for urban bronze. This colour looks fantastic but might become too common.
1. Sales rep said the Storme has intelligent headlights. The projectors turn with the steering direction. Could'nt check it though. Can anyone throw some light on this.
2. EX 4x4 can be ordered from the factory. It costs about 1.5 lakh more and takes about 45-60 days for delivery. The reason I asked is bcos I wanted only a 4x4 but not VX.
3. I asked abt not providing space for a 2DIN. Sales rep said Tata wanted to keep things simple and thats why.
. Think of cooking up a reply.
