Best Communication Method Between USA and India

Dear Friends

One of my collegue is on a travel to USA for a month, but it is always important to have day to day communication between us apart from using e-mails. So suggest what is the best and cheapest way to do this. I think of these things

1. Take a mobile with local SIM in USA and communicate via viber
2. Activate international roaming on the present Indian number and use SMS service
3. Activate international roaming and use internet and call thru' viber

Please suggest which is the best way

Your friend can use any of the following options.
1. Take a prepaid sim card (AT&T or T-Mobile) and make an account on Rebtel. (Cheap International Calls From Rebtel). They have very cheap calling rates to India.
The best time to call India is after 9 pm as all the calls are totally free and on Saturday/Sunday as well..

2. Other option that your friend can try is Skype, viber and Line.
