Highlights of the Event

  • India’s biggest Karting Challenge to span across 9 cities with its second regional round in Chennai at the city’s oldest and most popular karting track – Kart Attack, ECR from 3-5 Dec,2010
  • The challenge targeted at 7000 plus students between 12-16 years of age from the top 30 schools in Chennai giving them free of cost participation
  • Top 6 finishers of the regional round at Chennai to be selected for the Grand Finals of the Amaron Karting Challenge season 3, winners of which to be awarded scholarship of upto Rs 10 lacs and professional training by Amaron Pro Racing with MECO Motor sports
  • Special support races for those above 16 years with an opportunity to race in the VW Polo Cup 2011

Chennai, 29 Nov, 2010: Amaron Pro Racing, a corporate motorsport initiative of the leading automotive & industrial battery maker Amara Raja Batteries Ltd today announced the launch of the second regional round of ‘The Amaron Karting Challenge Season 3’ in Chennai. Season 3 of the Amaron Karting Challenge will be flagged off in Chennai on 3rd Dec, 2010 in the presence of Mr. Mackinlay Barreto -Head, Amaron Pro Racing and Mr. Akbar Ebrahim – Coach, Team Amaron Pro Racing.

The Amaron Karting Challenge Season 3 in Chennai will target more than 7000 students from 12-16 years age inviting them for the action on the track. So far, more than 4200 students have already registered and very soon this figure is expected to rise much beyond the target laid down for Chennai on the outset. The entire process of registration and bringing the amateur participants on the track is being done by reaching out to the top 30 schools in Chennai such as Sri J N S Mat Hr Sec School, The Salvation School, Sherwood Hall and Lady Andal School amongst others.

While Team Amaron Pro Racing is conducting elaborate school contact programme in various schools to educate them on the upcoming Amaron Karting Challenge Season 3, the interested kids in Chennai can also register online on www.amaron.in/akc or Amaron Karting Challenge to participate and discover the racer in them!

Amaron Karting Challenge Season 3 will set in motion in Chennai at Kart Attack, ECR and is scheduled from 3- 5 Dec, 2010. The Amaron Karting Challenge will move across Indian to target more than 1.5 lac students from the top 300 schools and select altogether 54 racers representing their schools through a total of 9 cities of India for the national finals. The top 6 finishers from Chennai will be racing amongst these 54 contestants who will be competing in the grand finale to be held on 7th February 2011 in Hyderabad.

The winner of Amaron Karting Challenge Season 3 will be rewarded with a scholarship of up to Rs 10 lacs. The top three successful AKC season 3 national racers will be getting once in a life time opportunity to posses self autographed helmets of the F1 driver Karun Chandok, the F2 champ and the GP2 driver Armaan Ebrahim and VW Schirocco Cup driver Aditya Patel. The winner, in addition will be nurtured by Amaron Pro Racing Academy with MECO Motorsports to race in the Rotax Max National Karting Championship. The Amaron Scholarship Programme will further support the winner to get into international racing.

‘Amaron Karting Challenge’ is the only talent hunt in India that scouts and discovers talent at the grass root level. Amaron Karting Challenge Season 3 will span across 7 states and 9 cities namely Chennai, Coimbatore, Goa Mumbai, Delhi, Kolhapur, Chandigarh, Bengaluru and Hyderabad making it India’s biggest racing extravaganza in just its 3 season.

This year, Amaron Karting Challenge has added support races targeting over 1 lac students (16+ yrs) from 250 colleges and 0.5 lac working professionals from almost 100 corporate houses across India.

While college and corporate enthusiasts will not compete for the Amaron Karting Challenge Season 3 trophy, Amaron Karting Challenge supports responsible driving on the city roads and promotes speed on the race track.

The support races for college and corporate enthusiasts will also act as a feeder to the 2011 season of Volkswagen Polo Cup. The officials will monitor lap times of all participants and those posting competitive lap times will be invited to participate for the VW Polo Cup 2011 final shoot out.

Announcing the launch of AKC Season 3 in Chennai, Mr. Mackinlay Barreto, Head - Motor Sports, Amaron Pro Racing commented, “Amaron Pro Racing remains committed to bring Indian Motorsports and Indian racers to global level. The Amaron Karting Challenge appeals to racers as well as non-racers and the winner of Amaron Karting Challenge Season 3 will get once a life time opportunity to move to the Rotax Max Karting Championship and the Formula Rolon racing series in India and further be fostered by Amaron Pro Racing to graduate to International grids.”

“India is all set to arrive as a global motorsports destination. With F1 arriving in India next year, the timing is most appropriate for all young racing enthusiasts from India who dream to make it big in the world of motorsports”, he further added.

Ace racer, Coach Akbar Ebrahim of Team Amaron Pro Racing with MECO Motorsports commented on the occasion, “The Amaron Karting Challenge provides a unique opportunity for the Indian youth to try out racing and come to the forefront. Racing is fun but a very demanding and challenging sport. We will put these budding speedsters through strict physical rigor and exemplary practice skills to get their acts together on the race track.”

Amaron Pro Racing drivers and Rotax Max junior series champ Shashank Ravishankar, and Rotax Max senior champ Vishnu Prasad would be present along with F2 star & GP2 driver Amraan Ebrahim and VW Schirocco Cup driver Aditya Patel to provide tips to the aspiring racers. They would also take to the tracks for a unique demo race!!!

The Amaron Karting Challenge season 3 winners will be trained at the Amaron Pro Racing Academy with MECO Motorsports as well as race craft tips by the Amaron brand ambassadors. Karting, also known as kindergarten of motorsports, trains racers and wannabe racers from the very beginning. Amaron being a technology and innovation leader in its sector is a staunch patron of technology; motorsports thus is a natural fit.
