Volkswagen India is seriously planning to introduce a CNG variant in one of their cars. Volkswagen has been present in the Indian market for a few years now and their cars especially the Polo and the Vento have been fairly successful. The Passat and the Jetta too have sold well in the metros but the car to look out for will be the Up hatch which will be launched in 2013.
VW now is looking for options to increase sales and it averages around 7000 cars per month. One option the manufacturer is looking at is the introduction of CNG models. “We need to find answers as our sales are not up to industry benchmarks such as Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. We have to sit back and see how we are doing qualitative things like customer interaction and after-sales,” said Neeraj Garg, Director- Passenger cars, Volkswagen group. VW at the moment is using the ongoing IPL as a platform to advertise their cars and has introduced special edition versions of the Polo and the Vento.
Currently the Mitsubishi Cedia comes with a CNG kit, the Chevrolet Spark has a LPG variant, the Hyundai Accent and Santro both come with a CNG and a LPG kit, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco too also uses a CNG kit and the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has a LPG variant. Source:Topspeed
