A very long thread, quite informative, but as usual deviates time to time from the main topic i.e. why Aria failed to take off?
As, i believe almost all the points are covered in the previous posts by various members, But none by an Aria Owner, so here goes my few points which pulled me to buy Aria over XUV or any other vehicle including yet to be launched STORME.
First things First, why Aria Didnt take off well?
1.) Its a product of TATA (Badge problem and Average(then) Good (now) ASS
2.) A costly vehicle by say 2.5L
3.) Looks more like MUV than SUV
Now, why XUV take off well
1.) Good looking design (subjective)
2.) M&M Badge and Good ASS
3.) Right price band (as per me a bit costly by 60-70K)
4.) M&M provides more features in their base model
Now, why i have gone for Aria rather than XUV (although i can afford both)
1.) Its a TATA product (my experience with TATA so far is very good and also people around me owns TATA products from Nano to Safari and they are quite happy with the products and their ASS
2.) It has more practicality than XUV in terms of Space, NVH, Design, Interior quality, fit and finish, etc)
3.) Aria has a practical boot space, XUV just doesnt have a boot space
4.) Aria gear box is better than XUV and same goes for 2.2 VTT which is not loud and pulls from 1400 rpm ( has a bit of lag say for a second or so). Whereas XUV pulls cleanly from 1300-1400 rpm and has a lag for half a second or so.
One has to keep Aria in right gear at low speeds to keep things under control but for XUV even a higher gear works.
XUV engine becomes a bit audible and coarse after 60kmph, whereas in Aria the engine run smooth from its idle rpm to 150 kmph.
Aria has the best mid range.
On Highway its the 2.2vtt of Aria which delivers better fuel economy than XUV. inspite of much higher (around 400kgs) of kerb weight.
Aria has superb plush ride quality, xuv has a bit of hard ride (only a bit)
Aria provides better warranty of 100000 kms and three years. whereas xuv has only 50000kms and 2 years.
5.) Aria has 15k service intervals whereas XUV has 10k service intervals
6.) Most Imp. thing i.e. vitamin M. TML has offered a great discount of Rs. 3.35L on 4x4 pleasure variant which makes it to 12.4L OTR Delhi and XUV was 13.1L OTR Delhi but in 4x2 mode where as in 70K less i got a 4x4.
Niggles: Both vehicle has their own sets of niggles. If one search on net they will find more niggles on XUV (as it has sold in more numbers) but Aria also has niggles which are already mentioned in my ownership review and also on other forums.
XUV suffers from more and constant niggles from passenger side front door not closing from the day vehicle was launched to brake disc replacements. Aria has different issues in different lots. Regular updates and upgrades are done by both companies to make the product a niggle free product.
Tata after updating all the so far reported niggles launched Aria in Italy whereas in XUV M&M is still in the process of updating the softwares of Infotainment system, brakes, gear and door locking issue (same is with Scorpio where rear door refuses to lock if all the doors and windows are lock).
Both vehicle has so much to offer that other companies like Honda and Toyata failed to offer at that price point.
Which ever you'll buy you wont regret later.
Will try to post more comments later.
