Maruti Brezza to Jeep Compass: 8 affordable India-made cars that are SUPER safe according to NCAP
Safety has never been paramount of made-in-India cars until quite recently. Several made-in-India cars have been tested by the Global NCAP agency for safety and most of them scored a ZERO. Under the “Safer cars for India” campaign, Global NCAP is testing cars in Germany to give ratings to the Indian cars. Even though many cars have failed the test, there are quite a few that have come out with flying colours. Here are eight such cars that have received at least 4 stars or more from the NCAP safety rating agency from various regions.
Tata Nexon

There is much news of passengers getting saved because of the build quality of the Tata Nexon on various social media platforms. Global NCAP has tested the made-in-India SUV and it has received a 4-star for the adult occupant protection and a 3-star rating for the child occupant protection. The bodyshell of the vehicle has been rated as stable. The Nexon gets dual front airbags and ABS+EBD as standard across all the variants.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the best selling UV in India has received a 4-star rating from the Global NCAP today. The sub-4-meter SUV is extremely popular in the Indian market and sells in good numbers. Global NCAP has given the SUV 4 stars for adult safety and 2 stars for the child protection. The Vitara Brezza also comes with dual front airbags, ABS+EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard across the variants.
Jeep Compass

Jeep India exports the made-in-India to many countries including Australia. The Austrailian NCAP tested the made-in-India Compass and it received 5-stars. It should be noted that even the base variant of the Austrailian spec Jeep Compass comes with Electronic Stability Control, Electronic Mitigation Control, Electronic Roll Mitigation, Traction Control, Trailer Sway Control, Rain Brake Support and 7 airbags. The India-spec base model only gets dual airbags, ABD+EBD, Electronic Control Stability, Electronic Roll Mitigation and Traction Control System.
Toyota Etios Liva

The Toyota Etios Liva is the most affordable vehicle in this list. The Etios Liva offers dual front airbags as standard, which is a standard practice by Toyota in India for a long time now. The test conducted by Global NCAP on the Etios Liva gave it four stars for adult protection and 2 stars for the child protection.
Volkswagen Polo
4 Stars – Global NCAP

Global NCAP first tested the Volkswagen Polo and gave it a Zero star rating because the car did not offer airbags in the base model. However, after the result, Volkswagen launched the Polo that came standard with dual airbags even in the base variant. It was tested again by the G-NCAP and it received a 4-star rating for the adult protection and a 3-star rating for the child occupant protection. Out of a score of 17, VW Polo managed to score 12.54 points whereas, without the airbags, it scored only 5.42 points.
Volkswagen Vento
5 Stars – ASEAN NCAP
There are two different ratings for the Volkswagen Vento that are given to two different variants of the sedan. The 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine powered Vento gets Electronic Stability Program (ESP) as standard and it scored 5 stars in the test. The variants without the ESP received a 4-star rating. Both the vehicles, however, scored 14.51 out of 16 for the adult protection and have equally stable bodyshell.
Hyundai Creta

The Hyundai Creta is extremely popular SUV in the Indian market. Hyundai also uses the Indian manufacturing plant to export the Creta to various countries including Latin America. In the Latin NCAP test rating, the Hyundai Creta scored an impressive 4-star rating. However, it is a left hand driven vehicle and we cannot say if the structural integrity of the vehicle matches with the Indian version but it had only two-airbags, which is standard in the Indian spec Creta too. The Creta scored 15.57 out of 17. The body structure was rated as stable.
Mahindra XUV 500

The Mahindra XUV 500 is first monocoque shell car from the brand. It is quite popular in India as well as international markets like Austrailia, South Africa and so on. In Austrailia, the car was tested for both front and side impacts and it received an impressive 4-star rating. The model tested in the A-NCAP was an AWD version of the SUV and it scored 10 points out of 16 in the frontal offset test. The XUV 500 managed scored a perfect 16 out of 16 for the side impact test. Overall, the vehicle scored 26 points out of 37 points.
