New Maruti WagonR’s premium cousin, Suzuki Solio spied in Gurugram

Suzuki Solio is a premium hatchback which is based on the same platform as the new WagonR. Now, the car has been spied on Indian roads by reader Gourav.

To be launched as the new generation WagonR, and codenamed Project YCA, this new Maruti Suzuki car will be showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo fo gauge customer interest. Most likely, the car will go ahead and enter production at company’s plant in Gujarat.

Internationally, the Solio is offered as a 5 seater variant. But in India, it is expected to be offered in 5 and 7 seater variants. The former will compete with cars like Renault Kwid, Tata Tiago, Datsun Go, etc, while WagonR MPV 7 seater variant will rival the likes of Datsun Go+ MPV.

Featuring best in class legroom and headroom, the new Maruti WagonR will feature premium quality interiors. It will also get touchscreen infotainment system along with navigation, reverse park assist, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

Internationally the Solio is offered with a hybrid powertrain as well. But in India, expect it to be offered with a petrol as well as diesel engine option. The smaller 5 seater variant could get the 1.0 liter mill from the current WagonR, while the bigger 7 seater variant will get a 1.2 liter petrol mill from the Swift and 1.3 liter diesel engine.

Over the last few years, Maruti has been focusing on making their products more of an premium offering, rather than an entry level offering. Be it the new Swift or Dzire, all their new car launches in the recent times have featured impressive quality interiors and features. Same can be expected with the new WagonR variants. More details will be revealed once the car is revealed at the 2018 Auto Expo next month.

Re: New Maruti Suzuki Solio spied in India

^^ Aren't we seeing the mix of all countries in our country together?? [lol] [lol]

This looks straight out from Japan and Boxy enough to call it a steelbox! Why can't Maruti just stop the Wagon-R and bring this instead of selling the same car with different names? Let alone the already dud Sting-Ray!

The car in the pics looks like the 7 seater version to me.
Tall stance and Clear light Tail-lamps highlighting the rear superbly, like the popular M&M Scorpio.

Maruti WagonR 7 seater MPV (Suzuki Solio) – Front revealed in new spy shots

Maruti Suzuki India Limited is testing a new 7 seater version of its WagonR hatchback, which has been launched in Japan as Suzuki Solio. The model has been spied on test in Delhi recently. Built on Maruti Suzuki’s new HEARTECT platform on which the new generation Swift, DZire and Ertiga are also based. This new platform will allow the MPV to be lighter and stronger resulting in more fuel efficiency and better safety.

Sporting the same tall boy design, the new WagonR gets larger windows, a new two piece front grille, squared headlamp design and a well defined bumper. It also gets a large air dam, sporty character lines running across its sides and exterior color options of white, red, grey, silver, blue, beige and brown.

Interiors will be spacious for upto 7 adults with comfortable seating and a host of infotainment and safety features allowing it to comply with Bharat NCAP crash test norms. On board features include a touchscreen infotainment system, a 2 DIN system with Bluetooth, AUX and USB, auto steering, reverse sensors and keyless entry.

Speaking about engine options, the current 1 liter petrol engine, powering the WagonR as on date, offers 67 bhp power and 90 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual transmission and AMT unit. This engine will be tweaked for added power and performance on the upcoming WagonR while fuel efficiency is pegged at 18-19 kmpl.

As the new Maruti Suzuki WagonR enters a budget MPV segment in India where there are not too many players, the 7 seater variant will only have to contend with the Datsun Go+ in its category, or the upcoming budget Renault MPV, which is also on test in India these days.
