Kia Sorento Spotted on Indian Roads

Kia showcased the Kia Sorento to potential dealers in India in August last year. Recently, RushLane reader A P Kumar spotted a pre-facelift Kia Sorento on a highway in the country.



The Kia Sorento spotted recently was not camouflaged and wasn’t void of its badges at the rear. From what it looks like, it’s probably a company car used by high-ranking officials at the company’s first plant under construction in Andhra Pradesh. The Kia Sorento is a mid-size SUV that rivals the likes of Hyundai Santa Fe and Nissan X-Trail. It is available in 5- and 7-seat versions. The current, third-gen model arrived in 2014 and received a mid-cycle refresh late last year.

Instead of expensive mid-size models like the Kia Sorento, Kia is highly likely to prioritize much smaller and heavily localised cars like the Kia Picanto and Kia Rio Sedan. According to a report, Kia will enter the Indian market with a sub-4 metre SUV next year. The Kia Rio Sedan (Hyundai Verna rival) and Kia Picanto (Hyundai i10) rival could follow next. By that time, the Kia Sorento may have moved to its fourth generation.

Kia will showcase its products at Auto Expo 2018. The company could display the Kia Sorento to create a premium brand image and gain feedback for the model.

Next-Gen Kia Sorento Will Offer Hybrid, Plug-In-Hybrid Variants

Kia is planning to add both conventional hybrid and plug-in-hybrid powertrains to the Sorento mid-size SUV, according to Emilio Herrara, Kia Europe's chief operating officer, who confirmed these new models in an interview with Automotive News Europe. The Sorento hybrid and plug-in hybrid will arrive in 2020, Herrara said, in conjunction with the crossover's impending redesign.

The redesigned Sorento is likely to arrive within the next few months as a 2021 model, although it's not clear if the hybrids will launch concurrently with the nonhybrid models for the U.S. market.

New 2020 Kia Sorento spotted during official photoshoot

The all-new Kia Sorento has been spied completely uncamouflaged ahead of its scheduled debut at Geneva. The all-new model will be unveiled on Tuesday 3 March, before making its public debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

Alongside the deluge of spy shots, Kia has now issued an official teaser image of its new SUV, accompanied with some official insight.

The fourth-generation Kia Sorento retains the brand’s trademark “tiger nose” grille shape, but now features boxier dimensions and a set of vertical rear lights which resemble the units fitted to the US-market Kia Telluride. There’s also a pair of new LED headlights, a more steeply raked roofline and redesigned tailgate.

Kia will attempt to move its largest SUV upmarket with this fourth-generation model, by adding chrome and piano-black plastic trim, new leather upholstery, LED ambient lighting and a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system lifted from the Soul EV.
