Maruti Suzuki changes priority to its future product plans. Focus shifts to plug gaps in its portfolio.
Will use the SUZUKI's lineage and DNA of SUV's.

1. Will take on Mahindra's XUV - Launch planned for 2020. Likely to use the 2.0L MJD engine

The automaker is developing a large SUV, positioned above the compact Vitara Brezza to take on the likes of the Tata Hexa and Mahindra XUV 5OO. The vehicle is being developed on Suzuki’s Fifth Generation C Platform and is scheduled to go into production in 2020.
2. A Crossover below Vitara Brezza.

Studies are also going on to determine the feasibility of a small SUV, positioned below the Vitara Brezza.

There are some opportunities developing in that kind of segments, -“We have to study that well
3. A Crossover hatch - to take on Renault's KWID. - Launch in 2019

Maruti plans to offer products across the value chain.
Part of it is an SUV-styled hatchback, codenamed Y1K, which maymake the entry in 2019 to take on the Renault Kwid. The company is also studying a separate architecture that could spawn out a small SUV and a hatchback.

Maruti Suzuki, in turn, is looking at growing annual sales to 2 million units by 2020. They are not leaving any stone unturned in addressing the requirements of Indian customers.

They are gonna be too late to the SUV/ Compact SUV party
Brezza is a good product but a segment or two below the hottest segments right now

S Cross isnt appealing to most and they should have done more to rectify it

They might be late but don't underestimate Marutis brand recall in India .

I got only one wish , Suzuki should not insult us with Desi products like Brezza . Brezza might be a hit but it was a missed opportunity by MSIL to chose it over the global Vitara . The Vitara which is very similar in size & shape to Brezza but feels much sophisticated than Brezza, could have changed the brand image of Maruti altogether . Seen a Vitara, Creta & Duster side by side over seas, and first thought that struck in my mind was who the hell chose not to introduce it in India !

The failure of Scross is a setback for those expecting global Suzuki products in India.

Suzuki had a full size monocoque SUV called XL-7 based on GM platform around 2009 which looks like a mix of Aria & XUV , but the failure of Grand Vitara might had changed their mind in not introducing it here .

If they want to do that, ask them to take off something like Ignis and stop calling it Micro SUV. Maruti is a failure in larger cars, as Suzuki had not given any tech here. Let us see how the future unfolds.

Maruti Suzuki's next SUV likely to be called GRAND VITARA for a launch in 2019/20.
The new SUV will get the same ‘Generation C’ underpinnings that also forms the base of Vitara Brezza.

The new Grand Vitara is a full-size SUV that will be positioned above S-Cross in the market. The new Vitara will offer the more favourable diesel engine too. Maruti has recently signed a contract with Fiat for the supply for 2.0-litre diesel engines. The new Vitara is likely to be powered by the new 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine from Fiat.

The lower variants may also be powered by the 1.6-litre diesel engine that comes with the S-Cross. Maruti may also offer the 1.6-litre petrol engine with the Vitara. Features-wise, the Indian version will be quite different from the European version. The five-seater SUV in Europe comes loaded with 7-airbags, keyless entry, panoramic sunroof, adaptive sunroof and even radar-based braking system. Few of these features will make into the Indian version of the vehicle.

Looks awesome. Seen it personally here. Has awesome road presence. However wasn't the 2.0 MJD between Tata and Fiat? Maruti inked deal only for the 1.3 MJD for the next 3 years. Is my understanding incorrect???

The car in the pic is a Vitara S and not grand Vitara . Grand Vitara is yet to come out of the dark . If it's based on C platform it won't be that bigger right ? A bit bigger than S cross, may be like an outlander at maximum .

I have seen GV in two avatars here in Sydney, both shorter and longer wheel base. The LWB has a really good road presence. The SWB was like Jimny. A 3 door one. Not sure if the GV coming to Indian shore is infact the original GV or if it will be exclusively built in India based on the Brezza.

Yes you are right. The one in the pic is in fact the Vitara. They have displayed it in a nearbymall along with the Ignis. Will see if I can get a picture of it. The next gen GV is expected around 2019 here in Australia.
