Top four sales & marketing executives exit Volkswagen India - Many more resignations to follow.

With GM exit still fresh in our minds , with these exists in the VAG group clearly is no coincidence. Earlier in the month we had Skoda India MD - Sudhir Rao leave and now we have news of mass exodus from VW India team.
Volkswagen global portfolio clearly shows no plans or interest in the Indian Market a contrasting truth when compared with China and S America, but instead we see some hazy talks with local alliance partners to build India specific products.

These now raises a few questions and possibilities.
- Are we interested in VW brand when products are build with an alliance and will be a me- too product ?
- Will premium pricing justify the above cause
- Should VW bring their global products built on the MQB platform with premium pricing
- Will VW-FAW (Chinese partner) products the solution for the Indian market
- Should VW buy out an Indian car company instead of an alliance?

Lastly like GM should VW quit the market and concentrate on exports only?

Top four sales & marketing executives exit Volkswagen India.
According to several people in the know, head of sales - Pankaj Sharma, national head of corporate sales - Neerav Shah and regional sales manager South- Ravi Prakash have left the company. And there may be some more exits expected in the coming weeks

Re: Rumour:Mass Exodus of top management from VW - India?

Start manufacturing spare parts in india = less maintenance cost + less spare part costs + less procurement time.
I don't know how hard this could be. If they can start a partnership for a indian specific product why can't they do the same just for manufacturing parts.
Products are brilliant inside out.

Ps : It's a joke that they use imported engine oil. They should start selling imported petrol with thei cars if they are so much concerned for quality.

Re: Rumour:Mass Exodus of top management from VW - India?

Companies like vw cant survive for long in india. Mainly due to their higher cost of ownership. They make good cars but the public here doesnt care about that. They want mileage, cheap maintenance and resale. Even if vw gives(mostly by sacrificing its core values) that their sales wont change much, because vw fans wont buy a vw then. Ford did this with its new figo twins. Jetta 2017 will not be sold due to its higher price. Even if they make it here still no one will buy it.

Only foreign brands which will survive are hyundai, toyota, honda. Also if vw makes a jv with tata, it will surely kill the brand value.

Re: Rumour:Mass Exodus of top management from VW - India?

if VW will make products with Tata it will be the platform sharing and to our surprise, Tata AMP turned out to be better in terms of safety, structure & modularity with less cost as 70-80% of the parts/spares will remain same for different models. It is even better & advanced in lot many ways than MQB especially for the market like India & other developing nations.

And if the info is true, then Skoda will be the brand which will get the cars out of this deal, not the main VW brand as of now.

To clarify, Skoda from the VAG group will lead this budding alliance. But it doesn't mean you will get VW cars in MQB platform and SKoda from the alliance platform.

All lower end cars coming ( up to 12 lakhs) from the group, in India will have the alliance platform in whatever name you call it.

what I think is VW brand will play premium and upper class/segment and Skoda will get into mass market/small car segment initially.

And If you talk about general public, they do not care about the platform and who is sharing what. The engine technology which is the highest selling for Maruti, never brought the numbers for Fiat or Tata or Chevrolet, it's all about the brand perception in India.

About the topic, It seems that all the members who are leaving from VW and Skoda might join a new company together - MG[surprise]

I even read this news as well - The joint product development is at the core of the talks between Tata Motors and Volkswagen Group, the German company has also not ruled out sales and distribution tie-up between the two, say people in the know. Such an arrangement may also have been one of the reasons behind the trimming of sales division.

Currently the few who buys a VW is on quality of build which is generally worth the premium offered. reliabilty is still a concern though.
If going forward we have them playing mass market with re-badging(sort-of) with the alliance, the currently minority( fanboys) too will shun this.
The general public public will either ways not buy a VW- with or without an alliance.

I dont think it will be re-badging(sort-of) alliance. It will be sharing tech, platform, GB & may be few engines as well.

But If it will be re-badging then VW will be finished[frustration]

According to confidential section of autocarindia magazine, VW Tata alliance has come to a speed breaker. The cost of using Tata platform is a whopping 140 million euros, which is forcing VW to use its own MQB-A platform

Re: Rumour: Mass Exodus Volkswagen India Top Management?

So this brings me to the question. Globally GM Ford Volkswagen Nissan etc are all top level players in there own way however why are they finding it so difficult get a foot in Indian market. Basically we have turned into a 2-3 products market. Even the luxury players like Mercedes and BMW feels the market has really not opened up like they expected the market to and will find it difficult to sustain for a long time. At this level unless its a Maruti Hyundai and Toyota everyone else is doomed. So such big players where are they failing? An incompetent Indian management? A foreign management which does not understand Indian market? Companies with no cohesion of thoughts in its Indian and foreign management? Many foreign companies are getting into tie ups with Indian companies that will bring them no value and as is doomed to fail. But I believe most of these companies failed to bring in competent products for the Indian market at the correct price point and even totally failed to support them after sales. Many of these companies did not take the Indian consumers seriously and there customer service is a joke. All such companies are now struggling to get a toe hold back. If you come yo India get it right the first time else Indian consumers will never forgive.

The problem for manufacturers like VW is, our market hasnt matured at all.

We will remain an immature market as long as we judge a product by the price it retails at, as long as we judge a product by who the brand ambassador is, as long as we judge the product by the gimmicks on offer.

Re: Rumour: Mass Exodus Of Volkswagen India Top Management?

With Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra, Honda and Toyota together holding 75 % of market share and with global players having been involved in scandals, market shrinking in SA markets, challenging times in US , it is facing a cash crunch for investing in markets like India which is cost conscious and hence lower profits, GM seem to have set the trend.

Who will be the next to exit India - Volkswagen /Skoda , Ford, or FIAT ?

Agreed . But you forgot 2 most important factors -- Reliability and hassle free A.S.S. Many costly cars do good business in India due to reliability and good A.S.S. Innova , Fortuner and Creta are few examples.

I blame VW for their own problems-

-Poor legroom,space etc
-Poor after sales and dealers
-Poor choice of transmission-DSG(not suited for Indian conditions imho)
-Purposely removing select features to force customer to buy upper segment car

Other than the engine and experience in the driver seat, I cannot justify most of their cars
Its the little things where the Japanese clearly have excelled
