A partnership is in works in the Indian auto industry . Home-grown utility vehicle major Mahindra and Mahindra is in advanced talks with American automaker Ford to use the latter's Chennai plant for manufacturing its passenger vehicles.
The deal, if it goes through, will create substantial financial synergies and benefits for the two companies, while creating the possibility of a larger partnership involving technologies and products (though this is not part of the current discussions).
The talks are at an advanced stage, and several rounds of discussions have already taken place.
The idea is to enable M&M to get access to the idle capacity at Ford's Chennai plant, something which will be beneficial for both the companies.
in the long run such type of alliance did not work. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
