The Supreme Court said auto fuel adulteration was rampant in India and asked the Centre whether it could install adulteration sensitive fuel dispensers at petrol pumps to check this corrupt practice.
Uttar Pradesh had the maximum number of such cases at 672. It was followed by Madhya Pradesh (364), Maharashtra (336), Rajasthan (288), Punjab (226), Haryana (220), Tamil Nadu (208), Odisha (192), Gujarat (189), Chhattisgarh (172) and West Bengal (171). Indian Oil had the highest number of cases at 1,700 while Hindustan Petroleum had 1,397 and Bharat Petroleum 704.
