Maruti Suzuki on Friday said it is recalling 75,419 Baleno cars to upgrade the hatchback's airbag controller software.

The recalled Baleno cars (petrol and diesel) were manufactured between August 3, 2015 and May 17, 2016, Maruti Suzuki said in a statement.

Nearly 16,000 Baleno cars (only diesel), manufactured between August 3, 2015 and March 22, 2016, will also be checked for faulty fuel filter, Maruti said.

Maruti - India's biggest carmaker - is also recalling 1,961 units of DZire compact sedan to replace faulty fuel filter.

Customers impacted by the recalls will be contacted by Maruti Suzuki dealers starting May 31, 2016.

"The software upgrade and the replacement of faulty fuel filter, will be done free of cost," Maruti said.

Dealers will start reaching out to buyers from May 31.

75000 Balenos from Aug-15- wouldnt that be pretty much over 80-90 % of all the cars sold in that period ?
Seems to be a season of mass recalls these days.
Wonder why no car is recalled for failing/potentially failing crash test norms.[;)]

Crash worthiness improvement requires a modification in body structure, which isn't a easy job at A.S.S. Recall will end up with a new car replacement.

Wish they would do something regarding the Baleno's other known issues- bouncy ride, underrated alternator & steering centering issues. But with 75000+ cars, i think MS is never going to admit to these issues
