Terrain Tigers member, Dinesh Yadav, has spotted the Jeep Renegade testing on Indian soil again. The new spyshots offer a closer look at its camouflaged, boxy exterior.

Although FCA India has only announced the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee and SRT models initially, perhaps the company could introduce the entry-level Renegade to challenge the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster.
Should the Renegade be considered for launch, it’s engine lineup could be sourced from the UK-spec model, which comprises of a 1.6-liter petrol or 2.0-liter MultiJet II diesel. A 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic serve as transmission options, while an AWD system is optional in higher grades.

Good Catch, bhargavreddy, [:). If and when launched, I'm sure its going to an aspirational vehicle. Only that , with the new trend, i seriously doubt whether it will be launched above 2000cc.

^^ Tata is developing/developed the 1.5D on its own, to be first seen on the Nexon, Fiat does have the 1.6 doing duty on the S-Cross, which I presume is an import.

Jeep Renegade compact SUV snapped testing in Delhi – Spied

Not confirmed yet for market launch.
The Jeep Renegade has been spotted testing in Delhi, courtesy of Zigwheels. As of now, FCA India has not confirmed its arrival in the Indian market.

The models that were imported to India for testing are powered by the 2.0-liter MultiJet II diesel engine. A 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic will serve as transmission options, while an AWD system is optional in higher grades. A 1.6-liter E-Torq petrol engine could also be offered, should there be demand for petrol-powered SUVs.
FCA had initially cancelled the launch of the Jeep Renegade in India and confirmed that the models to go on sale were the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee and SRT Cherokee. However, given the soaring demand for compact SUVs priced between 10 – 20 Lakhs, FCA may have had a change of heart. The Renegade could serve as Jeep’s entry level premium SUV to rival top-end grades of the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster

Another likely reason could be benchmark testing, as the Renegade is based on FCA’s Small Wide platform. This platform will underpin the slightly bigger Jeep 551 Compact SUV, which is confirmed to be manufactured and launched in India in 2017.

Jeep Renegade Features

Fiat's Ranjangaon plant near Pune, Maharashtra currently manufactures the Punto Evo, Linea and the Avventura. This is a big investment from the company and it affirms the seriousness with which the company approaches a country like India. The plant has an installed capacity of 1.60 lakh cars, and currently uses 70% of that only.

The Renegade is an important product for the company, for starters it will be the most affordable Jeep in the country as it will be priced under the Rs.20 lakh mark. Powering the Renegade is a Fiat-derived in-line four-cylinder 2.0-litre Multijet2 engine which comes in two state of tunes - 138bhp and 168bhp. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 9-speed automatic unit respectively. Inside, the Renegade is upholstered in black leather with silver accents, and comes with a climate control system, UConnect with 5-inch screen, 3.5-inch TFT instrument panel, rear parking sensors and cruise control. However, there are no indications or confirmation as yet from Fiat Chrysler India on launching the Renegade in India. It has said that a C-SUV is on the horizon but there are no timelines mentioned.

I for one would not want Jeep to launch sub-20 lakhs car. They would simply be diluting the aspirational value of Jeep Brand itself. Jeep will lose the exclusivity. Rather they should keep Jeep for 30+ bracket and launch the new 1.5/2.0 MJD in Fiat range. The reason why Fiat does not sell in the numbers it should is because consumers are unsure about the long term future of the company. If Fiat can address that, then they can start seeing decent amount of sales. For Jeep, they should try to increase the localisations and bring down the price of Wrangler and Cherokee. That should increase the sale of Jeep Brand.
