Datsun’s fourth product will be a crossover -EXCLUSIVE

Datsun has commenced worked on its fourth new product, which will be a crossover. This is if we consider the RediGO as the third one. At the moment, there are two possibilities, one is that the GO+ will get a body kit that makes it look like a crossover or that the brand is working to showcase a new crossover prototype at the 2016 Auto Expo.

Ideally this is the time for automakers to start preparing prototypes for the upcoming motor show in Greater Noida and then transferring them to the venue safely, covered from the rest of the world. At the last Auto Expo in 2014, Datsun had showcased the RediGO, which is the company’s new compact SUV coming early next year.

Datsun will be looking at utilising the CMF-A platform as Renault-Nissan have started manufacturing the Kwid in their factory, which is based on the same platform. The CMF platform will be utilised for more upcoming products in the future as well. This is likely to be a 5+2 seater itself, if they retain the GO+ platform. At the moment, everything is very tight lipped and we do have any more information than this.

Utilising the Datsun GO+ to make it into a crossover isn’t a difficult task. And in this manner the costing will be lesser, but will it be a good idea to use the same product again, might be a question that needs an answer. The GO is likely to not get into a crossover shape, as this will be somewhere similar to that of the RediGO. Our sources close to the plant recommend that the new product and it will be a crossover. The product planning is in very early stage and we shall update you with more information soon.

Datsun Go-Cross Concept Teased Ahead of Auto Expo Premiere

The Datsun GO-Cross Concept has been teased ahead of its local premiere at the Auto Expo 2016 in Greater Noida on February 3. The model has not yet been green lit for production, according to the company. It would be showcased alongside the Datsun Redi-GO which is believed to be unveiled and launched at the show.

Based on the Datsun GO+ MPV’s platform, the Datsun GO-Cross is a crossover-styled car that was unveiled at Nissan’s global headquarters in Japan during the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. It is reported to be offered in two versions, a five-seater and a seven-seater, when launched.
Reports also said that the seven-seat version will be launched a considerable time after the five-seat model is introduced in the market. It is believed that the Datsun GO-Cross will be the flagship on the GO platform.

Re: Datsun GO-Cross Concept teased ahead of Auto Expo premiere

If they do launch the Go Cross exactly like this or let's say something which will closely resemble the concept along with excellent build quality for a good price (need not be very cheap), this will be a hot seller. The concept looks amazing. One of the few good designs you get to see these days.

But as for now, the GOs can't stick to the ground if a strong gust of wind blows by!

Datsun Cross to be unveiled on January 18, 2018

0_578_872_0_100_http___cdni.autocarindia.com_ExtraImages_20180103115146_Datsun_Cross_teaser.jpg

Datsun has announced the official unveil of the production version of the Go Cross will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia on January 18, 2018. The manufacturer has also released a teaser image of the model before the unveil. Interestingly, the production version has been christened the ‘Cross’ and not ‘Go Cross’ like the concept that previewed the model was known as.

The sole official image revealed so far gives a clear look of the Cross’ frontal styling. There is plenty of carryover from the original concept with the kinked headlight and large fog lamp arrangement differentiating this model from all other Datsuns on sale. Further, body cladding and scuff plates visible in the photo should give the Cross a unique look. Also visible are LED daytime running lights and projector headlamps, the latter being a first for Datsun.

The image does not show the car in its entirety but spy images of the final product suggest the Cross will share most of its body panels and underpinnings with the Datsun Go+ which is also sold in India. In effect, the Cross will be more of a derivative of the Go+ rather than an all-new model. A leaked image that surfaced earlier showed the Cross’ rear three-quarter styling replete with black cladding all around with a silver finish on the lower portion of the bumper. It also gets a roof spoiler which adds some distinction to the rear end while this version’s roof rack is expected to carry up to 30kg of luggage.

The Cross is expected to share much of its cabin with other Datsuns though it will be a seven-seater like the Go+. There have been talks of an all-black interior with a slightly modified dashboard with provision for a touchscreen infotainment system.

In Indonesia, the Go Cross will be powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, petrol engine developing 68hp and 104Nm of peak torque. The motor will come mated to a five-speed manual, as standard – although a CVT automatic will also be on offer as an optional extra. Braking duties are carried out by ventilated discs at the front and solid discs at the rear, with ABS as standard, along with EBD and brake-assist.

In terms of equipment, the Cross will be offered with a manual AC, power windows with an auto up/down function, electrically adjustable wing mirrors (with manual folding) and a rear wiper. The previously leaked image also revealed that the model will come with rear parking sensors.

Datsun is expected to bring the model to India later this year, where it will rival the likes of cross-hatches like the Mahindra KUV100 NXT and Maruti CelerioX as well as compact SUVs like the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata’s recently launched Nexon and the refreshed Ford EcoSport.

That's a wide range of competitors it would be targeting. One thing I can say, if the same spec model that would be unveiled in next few days shall enter India, this would be very pocket friendly car. Would love to know the engine specs surely. I had seen this as concept car in 2016 Expo and it did look quite handsome.

Datsun Cross gets touchscreen & new dashboard

Datsun-Cross-profile-spy-shot.jpg

Just days before the Datsun Cross’ official unveiling on the 18th of this month, another batch of its spy shots has surfaced online. One of the spy shots gives a peek of its interior.

Datsun-Cross-interior-spy-shot.jpg

The Datsun Cross is not an entirely new model like the Datsun GO Cross Concept suggested. It is just a variant of the Datsun GO+ MPV and features a rugged styling for differentiation. However, it has a different interior as compared to the Datsun GO+. One of the spy shots reveals that the Datsun Cross features new dashboard, a touch-operated central display and rectangular central air vents.

The fitment of a touchscreen infotainment system in the Datsun Cross was already expected. A report released early last year had said that the company will offer more connectivity features in the future. The Datsun GO and Datsun GO+ could gain the touchscreen infotainment and incorporate the new dashboard design when they receive their mid-cycle update next year.

The Datsun Cross will measure just under four metres in length, making itself suitable for the Indian market. In Indonesia, local reports say that Datsun will offer it with the same HR12DE 1.2-litre petrol engine as the Datsun GO+. This engine is a naturally aspirated three-cylinder unit that develops 68 PS and 104 Nm of torque. Datsun could offer a continuously variable transmission as an option to a 5-speed manual transmission in the Cross.

Datsun Cross officially confirmed to get CVT

The Datsun GO and Datsun GO+ aren’t available with a CVT, but the Datsun Cross was expected to get it. Datsun has now confirmed that it will offer a continuously variable transmission in the Datsun Cross.

Datsun-Cross-CVT.jpg

The Datsun Cross is a crossover-themed variant of the Datsun GO+. Its rugged styling is drawn from the Datsun GO Cross Concept that was introduced at Auto Expo 2016. Spy shots and teaser images suggest that it features a honeycomb front grille with silver surround, silver skid plates, aggressive headlamps, high-mount front fog lamps, silver roof rails, black body cladding, silver inserts in the front bumper and ORVMs with integrated turn signals.

The Datsun Cross’ interior will have a different interior compared to the Datsun GO and Datsun GO+. Spy media has revealed fitment a new dashboard design, rectangular central air vents and a touchscreen infotainment system.

Under the hood, the Datsun Cross will reportedly have the HR12DE 1.2-litre petrol engine. In the Datsun GO and Datsun GO+, this three-cylinder mill develops 68 PS at 5,000 rpm and 104 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Basic configurations may have a 5-speed manual transmission instead of a continuously variable transmission.
